🏈 Trending in right direction for DL

I don't have time to watch that long of a video right now, but it was great to see them show up and play so well yesterday... I said back before the season that their level of play (the defensive front)) was going to be the barometer of the team's overall success. If they had played at that level all year, Bama would be undefeated and sitting no lower than #2 in the polls today. So the question is, now that we've seen them play that way, can they maintain it at a consistent level? It is worth mentioning that the A&M OL isn't all-world caliber... and their QB isn't a threat with his feet the way some others are/will be... but the fact remains, the Bama DL did some things.... things that they haven't been doing all year, and it wasn't all because of the opponent. The OLB's have been on an upward trajectory the last few games too. There's enough signs there to not just be optimistic, but to also be excited about as the 2nd half of the season starts to unfold now...

I do not recall which thread but you seemed to be really down on the DL and did not see a path forward to fix it. That was not very discouraging at the time I read it. Then MSU game the DL had probably their worse game stopping the run. It was good to see them play much better in the A&M game. We have to see if they can show they can do this with a reasonable degree of consistency.

Do you think it's the DL or saban's d plan? Seems like they're always stuck in the mush rush when a qb has mobility which allows average qbs to have all day and make the secondary look bad when you can't ask the best dB to cover someone forever. Just the way it seems to me.

Yeah, I was. I had written them off for the most part. I said the the Good, Bad, Ugly thread last night that they proved me wrong, at least yesterday. And yes, question now is, will that showing be an outlier? Or is it a sign of things to come. I always thought the potential was there… but the combination to unlock it just wasn’t happening from either side… players or coach. Maybe yesterday changes that. Maybe. Hopefully.

They’ve played with such poor discipline the last couple years that I think it’s more on them and Roach than the actual system. There’s also been some effort issues at times and lack of development and depth creation. Hopefully yesterday, a light finally came on. Keep in mind too, Steele is helping out some with the group in practices. Maybe that has started to pay off some. Really looking forward to seeing them against the Hogs, seeing how they respond after a good game like that.

I meant to say that was not very encouraging in my initial post. The DL and OL will always be the foundation. W/o it you will struggle. Hope this past weekend is a sign of things to come. This D has played well except for the 4th qtr of the Tx game and the USF game.

I understood...

And yes, overall, the defense has performed really well... they have a little bit of an edge to them again...

A light finally switched on for Eboigbe. He's played well, and then he's been injured, but he hasn't dominated like he did Saturday. He was playing angry. It was really good to see. I've always liked Eboigbe. He's a tough, team first player. I hope he keeps the intensity for the rest of the season. And no injuries.

Couldn't you say the same about Cochran? i understand he wanted an on-field position. My question is did Saban feel he couldn't teach the guy enough to find him an opportunity?
Do you want Cochran on the field when...let's just say, drug abuse? The reason he took a leave of absence in Athens was happening in Tuscaloosa.

When we created Tidefans in the mid 90's I said I'm never going to criticize players or coaches while they are at UA. For me to say something about Freddie is stepping outside of my own box.

The only thing Steele has done is brought Cochran's attitude back. (Oh, now two coaches I'm criticizing.) I don't like either one of them. At least Steele isn't another Lance Thompson.

Well of course not. I just brought him up due to his locker room presence, which I know helped build this thing. You never want to lose a guy that get get the players amped up and maximizing their abilities. A lot to be said about that, just like in recruiting when you're able to relate and get commitments from the players and most importantly their parents. Drug use is of course a hard no for me.

I don't have a problem with his drug use.

As a fan I have a problem with the demand. "I want this job." And he wasn't qualified.

I have a problem with political appointees based on race, gender, etc...shouldn't be a stretch I'd have a problem with "I want this job."

Understood and agreed. The drug use is still an issue for me though. Once again, how can we have a leader of young men using drugs and abusing them? Not saying all leaders need to be choir boys, but they should atleast try to be and set a good example.
