Transfer updates
A handful of former Alabama players who transferred to FBS schools and were eligible to play this season finished with mixed results.
Quarterback Alec Morris was Alabamaās third-stringer in 2015 and left for North Texas as a graduate transfer after the season. He won the starting job in preseason but lost it after just one game, then had to step in again late in the year after an injury. He finished the year 79-of-147 (53.7 percent) for 822 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions. North Texas went 5-7 but was chosen to play Army in the Heart of Dallas Bowl due to a strong APR score.
Defensive back Maurice Smith started at star for Georgia this fall, finishing the regular season with 44 tackles and two interceptions. He returned an interception against Auburn 34 yards for a touchdown in Georgiaās 13-7 win over Auburn. That loss by the Tigers clinched the SEC West for Alabama two weeks before the Iron Bowl. Georgia went 7-5 and will play TCU in the Liberty Bowl.
Wide receiver Chris Black had 17 receptions for 257 yards and a touchdown at Missouri this fall. He also returned 12 punts for 97 yards. Mizzou went 4-8 this year.
Players of the week
Center Bradley Bozeman, running back Bo Scarbrough and right tackle Jonah Williams were named offensive players of the week on Monday by the Alabama coaching staff.
Cornerback Anthony Averett, defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, linebacker Reuben Foster and defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson were named defensive players of the week.
Trevon Diggs, Derrick Gore, Keith Holcombe and Josh Jacobs were named special teams players of the week.
Senior bowl updates
Outside linebacker Ryan Anderson and long snapper Cole Mazza both tweeted pictures indicating that they had received invites to the Senior Bowl in Mobile. No Alabama player has formally accepted a Senior Bowl invite, according to the event website. The Senior Bowl takes place on Jan. 28, 2017.
