Former Auburn and Ole Miss coach does admit, however, Jalen Hurts needs some work if he is going to start over Tua Tagovailoa: "He got into the national championship game, and he couldn't complete a pass."

He was asked, so he gave his opinion on what has become the No. 1 spring football topic in the state of Alabama: Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa?

Which quarterback will start for Nick Saban's team when the Crimson Tide faces Louisville to open the 2018 season?

Football analyst and former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville joined "Three Man Front" on WJOX 94.5 FM in Birmingham and gave an emphatic answer.

"Jalen Hurts has got to be the starting quarterback right now," Tuberville said Wednesday. "The guy's won a ton of games."

That's not to say Tuberville doesn't recognize that Hurts must improve on his passing skills.

"He got into the national championship game, and he couldn't complete a pass. (Georgia) had them all on the line of scrimmage, and his passing has got to get better."

Tagovailoa came off the bench to start the second half and sparked a comeback, throwing a 41-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith to give No. 4 Alabama a 26-23 overtime victory against No. 3 Georgia for the College Football Playoff national championship.

Hurts finished the game 3-of-8-passing for 21 yards before being replaced. He did, however, add 47 yards on six carries.

Tuberville, who saw Georgia during the regular season last year, said the Bulldogs could press offenses like few could last year.

"When the young kid (Tagovailoa) comes in, Georgia had to back them off," he explained. "When the game started to get better, they had to play a more honest defense."

In the second half of the game, Tagovailoa threw 14 of 24 for 166 yards and three scores with one interception.

"So, Jalen Hurts, the ball's going to be in his court. He's got to be able to throw the ball better. I think he's a great leader. He understands how to win. I think he can run the offense."

Well, if there's one person Saban would listen to I'm sure it's Tubby lol

Whoever the starting QB is, is the one that Saban feels they have the best chance to win with. No one is going to be handed the job, not Tua and not Jalen. I truly believe we will see both play next year and both guys buy into it, especially if Alabama finds multiple ways to get Jalen the ball, then it could be a really scary offense.
