"Alabama freshman quarterback Blake Barnett is working with the most successful (and probably most expensive) private quarterback coach in the country,

Barnett, a five-star signee and a native of Corona, Calif., started visiting George Whitfield Jr. early in May.

Whitfield’s San Diego-based business has worked with a Who’s Who of college and NFL quarterbacks in recent years, including Johnny Manziel, Jameis Winston, Andrew Luck and Cam Newton.

Barnett since has returned to Alabama for the start of summer classes. But the so-called ā€œquarterback whispererā€ will make several trips to the Yellowhammer State to work with Winston before the start of NFL training camp, and will double up by working out Barnett on those trips, AL.com reported.

Not every just-graduated high school senior can afford Whitfield’s services. But it’s a positive development for Alabama. Though Barnett is likely to redshirt in 2015, working with Whitfield this early in his college career should jump-start his footwork and technique.

Considering Barnett’s natural physical ability, and the 1-on-1 instruction from Whitfield, it won’t be surprising to see Barnett make a serious push for the starting quarterback job in 2016."

Funny, Whitfield Jr was one of the cheaper QB coaches a few years ago. A buddy has been using him for years in San Diego, his kid ended up going to a div-II school. His kid just blew his ACL in spring ball and and he had the Chargers doctor do his surgery vs a doctor up in the emerald triangle.

This guy has blown up in the last 2 years. Who is he, what is his background, and why is he so highly sought after to coach QB's? I don't get it. When he speaks on Gameday, I'm not all that impressed. Maybe his talk is just above my head. It could be.

Want to say my buddy was paying under $100 an hour. His son has met alot of QB's thru George, George does this campus tours too where they'll hit like 10-15 campuses during the summer on a bus with a bunch of other QB's and their parents if they want to go. He actually gave me some of the stuff he got when he visited Alabama 3-4 years ago doing this. http://whitfieldathletix.com/rock-tour for more info.

I may be mistaken, but I think his relationship with Cam Newton is when he started getting a lot of publicity.

I'd say it was Ben Roethlisberger is when he took off back in 2010 I believe, back when he was suspended. Getting mentioned on ESPN game day a few times didn't hurt either via Cam, etc. Now he's a full time ESPN guy and he still works with big name QB's, but doesn't work with all the kids like he used to back in the day.

The bigger issue here with me is that QB's have to get private instructors as their damn QB coach in college can't work with them during the summer other than film room. Talk about crap...
