Alabama Gymnastics Faces Auburn in Elevate the Stage Meet in Birmingham

GymTide has won the last 116 meets in a row versus Auburn.

Less than 48 hours after opening its home and Southeastern Conference slate with a win over No. 14 Missouri, the No. 6 Alabama gymnastics team returns to action at the second-annual Elevate the Stage meet Sunday, Jan. 17 against No. 7 Auburn.

Tickets for the meet, which gets underway at 3 p.m. CT, can be purchased online at ElevateTheStage.com or at the BJCC box office.

In addition to facing its second Tiger team in two days, the Elevate meet will be Alabama’s third meet in eight days after opening the season at UCLA last Sunday. After beating Missouri by more than a point on Friday, Alabama traveled to Birmingham Saturday afternoon to train on the podium in the BJCC’s Legacy Arena.

On Sunday, all four apparatus will be competed on a raised platform, known as a podium in gymnastics circles. In addition to spotlighting the competitors, it also gives the equipment a little extra bounce. It is the same setup that the gymnasts will see at both the SEC and NCAA Championships.

Alabama won the inaugural Elevate meet last March by a narrow 197.200-197.025 margin. Both teams went on to finish in the top six nationally, with the Tide taking fourth at the NCAA Championships and Auburn taking sixth.

This season, Alabama comes into the first of two regular-season meetings with Auburn sporting a 1-1-0 record overall and a 1-0-0 mark in SEC competition, while the Tigers are 2-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the SEC.
