Man, 30 schollies....How many did we get, something like 21 or 24 or something? Practically neutered us for a while, but much of that was because of the Franchione departure, and hiring Shula, I'm convinced. There were plenty of games that Shula lost that would have been won if a better head coach was running things. However, that deep in probation excludes most good coaches from coming to your school.

Oh, and the Mike Price debacle was probably the most public embarrasment of all, even more so than the rumors of paying $$$$$ for Fat Albert Means. My opinion, anyway.

USC got what they deserved, and I hope they enjoyed their day in the limelight. Thing is, they'll probably win 9 games this year if Kiffin has any skill at all (jury is out).

Mike and Mike this morning were chatting about this and one of them stated that the lack of scholarships wouldn't be that big of a deal for USC because USC is a big name school.

Along about three years from now they'll be singing a different song. Just run the numbers. This fall, barring a mass exodus of upper classmen they will have somewhere around 85 shholarshipped players. For 2011 that number has to be down to 75, and they can sign no more than 15. With normal graduation, attrition, early exits to the NFL they will be very fortunate to be able to stay close to 75 Even if they do, the next class of 15 opposite the normal losses will put them at the high sixties, at best. Yet another class of fifteen and by the third year of probation their numbers will be in the low to mid sixties. Along about then they will have a small senior class, and it will take a couple of years past that to get the numbers back up to 85. With only fifteen to a class each recruiting mistake will affect depth, and injuries will be really hard to deal with. Just picture what we dealt with in the early Shula years, and remember that they are losing more than we did. I still shiver at the thought of Brodie going down and Spencer Pennington becoming the starter.

If all the 2010 recruits make admitance, then they will have 80 scholarship players this fall. I only took the number through the first two years of probation.

I'm tired, so I may be missing something. If so, someone on here will catch it for me. If not, I don't see how they can survive. It will be 5 or 6 years before they are meaningful again.
