"If Tech were to consider a move to the SEC, would politicians use the same reasoning and oppose it? I doubt it."
This has been the only show-stopper that I have to date heard raised in opposition of VT being an eastern target. Its good to hear that the "VT and UV must remain together" approach may not have traction.
"NEAT AND NICE are one thing and profitable is another. The difference in TV payouts would more than make up for the added travel for Techās non-revenue teams."
Glad to hear this one too, because most teams that we reach for will by the very nature of "reaching" have to travel more so than those in the Heart of Dixie. And, if the travel bills will be covered for VT the who's bills would not also be a covered. This is good for us regardless of who we target.
"Unlike the SEC, the ACC does not release those figures. The figure Iāve seen for the ACC is closer to $12 million per year, which sounds pretty good, if you ask me, but is dwarfed by some of the other major conferences."
I drink Your milkshake.
No doubt that pulling VT will increase earning potential for the SEC. Everyone benefits, including the Hokies. Now consider the reverse impact on the ACC. That cold be crushing to the ACC because there are no options for them that would replace the value of VT (with one exception, but that is another story).
There are few real winning moves for the SEC. Texas A&M is one for the same reason spelled out in the preceding paragraph, but relative to the Big12. Virginia Tech would be a great move for us in my opinion.
