The team practiced outside for the second time this week, the third practice of spring practice, and the guys went in full pads for the first time. Here is what I saw during the limited viewing period.

Cam Robinson appears to be a bit limited still (nothing serious). He stood off to the side during drills. Brandon Greene was again at left tackle in his spot.

Anthony Averett is now wearing No. 16 and he's working out with the wide receivers and not defensive backs. The wide receivers went through drills in the following order: Chris Black, ArDarius Stewart, Cam Sims, Robert Foster, Kenyan Drake (he continues to work at running back and wide receiver), Derek Kief, Anthony Averett, Parker Barrineau and Raheem Falkins.

Junior college transfer defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor looks to be in good shape. He could be a big plug in the middle of the defense this year.

Outside linebackers went through drills in the following order: Dillon Lee, Ryan Anderson, Tim Williams and Rashaan Evans.

Denzel Devall and Cyrus Jones road exercise bikes. Devall had a cast on his left foot and Jones' right shoulder was immobile.

Tyren Jones (suspended) and Grant Hill (medical leave) were still absent from practice.

Saban Press conference recap (Wednesday PM)
-Anthony Averett working with WR's today - Saban says it's just experiment with guys.

-No new injuries to report. Cam Robinson sprained his ankle and will be back to practice on Friday. "We're hopeful"

- Derrick Henry has improved in all facets of the game without the ball - blocking, receiving, running routes, etc. "I trust both those guys to be able to do a good job in that regard."

- Saban when asked about hoops: "I don't want Alabama to just be a football school."

- Da'Shawn Hand has been "very good" in the three deep.

The "three deep" caught my eye here. I jumped over to TI to see how he recapped the presser and found different wording.

On Da'Shawn Hand's physical development:

Da'Shawn Hand, there's physical maturity that he's certainly made improvement in. He's bigger and stronger than he was a year ago, but I think it's confidence and understanding. He's trying to learn everything as a freshman. People have high expectations for you. He's a lot more confident in what he's supposed to do, he's playing a lot faster, reacting lot better. We have every confidence he will be a good player for us next year, God willing he can stay healthy and continue to practice. But he's been very good in the three days we've had so far. We're excited about his future.

I knew that we were deep on the defensive front, but when I saw three deep, my first words were " Damn! We are EXTREMELY deep up front!"

They are going to need negative 1st downs this fall...at the least, 2nd and longer than 6/7 yards. I know, with that depth, teams are going to try to limit substitution patterns hoping they'll tire these guys out.

Agreed! Putting a team in 2nd & long makes the offense huddle to make sure they get a good play called to at least set up 3rd & short. Thus, we can sub in and out to keep fresh MONSTERS on the field.

I read it and was a little disappointed at first seeing that and thinking he was talking about the 2016 season. I was thinking he saw the field some last year, so he must have taken a dive to be looking forward to his Junior season. Glad that got cleared up.
