Might not know it but his childhood is what inspired Stand by Me. A lot of his work is seen today in other works. Part of his Night Shift focused on a virus that killed everyone (see TWD, Rain, et. al. on TV today.)
Macabre, at its finest. It takes a unique taste to read his stuff, I'll admit. I know a lot that won't crack the cover of any of his books. (Although Bachman offers a different genre.)
It wasn't research. I saw that article a few weeks ago when I was looking for what date IT would premiere on HBO.
If you're a reader, look up the Richard Bachman series of short stories called The Bachman Books. It's not horror, so to speak, but is a pen name King used to write four more novels. You may have seen Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger. That's a Bachman/King book turned to movie as well.
