The Ole' Ball Coach still has it.

Months after Alabama coach Nick Saban won the Maxwell Football Club's coach-of-the-year award, the former South Carolina and Florida head coach sent a zinger Saban's way.

"Obviously, they must have voted before the final game," he said, per The Tailgate" radio show in Gainesville.

The former Florida Heisman Trophy winner hinted before the College Football Playoffs started he thought there was a chance the Tide could get tripped up.

Spurrier's comments, while a jab, also were accurate.

The award was given on Jan. 5, which was four days before Alabama lost to Clemson in the College Football Playoff national championship game 35-31.

Saban will be presented the award Friday at the Maxwell Club National Award Gala in Atlantic City, N.J.

Is Spurrier a member of Augusta National? I was always told it awaited him if he took the South Carolina job, but I never heard anything after that.
Their membership list is private so there's no confirmation as to whether he is or is not a member. Hootie was involved in the negotiations to get Spurrier to UofSC, but membership was never a part of the agreement. That's just not Augusta.

He was invited to play there once a year while he was HC in Cola according to Augusta.com (part of the Chronicle that covers the Masters.)

I don't think ol' Lou carries the weight to get Spurrier in invite as a member. His (Holtz) came through his ND connections.

His bitterness comes from all the time he spent in Florida with a cutting edge offense, same opportunity as Saban is afforded now at BAMA . He was just about running the S.E.C. Until he left for the skins , And only has 1 natty to show for it .

He sees Saban in the hunt for every natty , except '07 . I challenge you to find a coach in college with a better national championship winning percentage.... .400 is pretty darn strong.

I feel kinda sorry for him to haft to live through what he always wanted to accomplish but just never could manage to break through .

Well I know it's not that simple to get in at Augusta. My dad's from Augusta as was his dad and so forth, so I grew up on the lore of Augusta. I only know of one member and he has three daughter's tgat all went to Georgia Tech. Lucky bastards that marry into tgat famiky with those ties. Funny how a University of Georgia alumni was helping South Khakilacki get a good coach to beef up their program.

Spurrier quit on his team mid-season....
Spurrier made it to one SEC CG while at USCe...lost!!!!
He saw Clemson on the rise,...and quit....
While SS makes great press coverage...He never was great...Fl had some great teams...but he lost a NC game by massive points....
And won a NC only because of a rematch with FSU...who had beaten them earlier....
SS never had an undefeated season...
He is entertaining....loves to dig at everybody...when its TN...its really funny...
He would be a great addition to CF ESPN Game day...

I thought it was funny & expected nothing less from him. Just speculation on my part but CNS is his own worst critic & has been all over that game in his mind since.

However, they barely won with a seasoned QB compared to our True Freshman & new Offensive coordinator... I think CNS did a bang up job last year.
