INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA will spend more than $10 million to help fund additional in-home care for college athletes who have suffered catastrophic injuries on the playing field.
The governing body said Thursday it will cost an estimated $4 million to help improve the benefits for athletes who were injured before the current insurance coverage was available in 1992. It will cost an additional $6 million to cover inflationary increases on home health care for those injured after 1992.
The change allows these athletes to collect up to $100,000 annually toward in-home health care and could be used for personal hygiene, feeding and daily living activities.
