The SEC may not repeat as the conference of champions when Auburn University takes on Florida State on Jan. 6, but its fans have repeated as the nation's best.

A poll commissioned by Discover found that Southeastern Conference fans are - for the second consecutive year - the most loyal in the U.S.

Surveyors polled fans over a 13-week period, asking them to rate the importance of their favorite teams' game each week, whether they still follow their team during bad years and whether friends and family are aware of their allegiance. The data was used to measure the major athletic conferences against one another, and the SEC was No. 1 in two of the three categories.

Discover also used the data to determine which individual university's fans are most loyal. The Big 12's University of Oklahoma took top honors for fans most loyal to a single school, with Auburn tying with Texas and Florida for fourth. The University of Alabama came in at No. 12 for school loyalty. Auburn was No. 1 in that ranking last year.

This doesn't even sound right; Auburn has twenty thousand empty seats in there stadium when not playing Alabama, LSU or Georgia, and when they have a down year like last year they go into hiding like no fan base I've ever seen (well maybe Tennessee is worse). When they're winning again we have to see there wrinkled crap come back out. As for us our stadium is always packed (other than the student section), our team apparel and other stuff never goes into hiding and we went through two stadium expansions during our bad years. When we refer to Alabama Football we say we or us; when you say "y'all" to an Auburn fan they'll say "Not y'all or us I don't play." Am I missing something?

Almost hilarious reading this piece. Bama is famous for its' "Rabid" fan base. Everyone wants to point out how Bama fans name their children "Bear" and "Nick" after our coaches, and how we killed the Toomers Oaks. I got sick of Facebook friends pointing out that someone supposedly murdered someone else in a fit of anger after the Iron Bowl this year. Yet this poll places us so far down that it is ridiculous. Obviously not a very scientific sampling. I will put our fan base against any ones. Unfortunately, that fan base includes some crazies that give us a bad rep.

I saw this report a few weeks ago and could not for the life of me understand it. I grew up a Georgia fan, coming from Georgia parents, and living in Georgia and once I arrived on campus at Alabama I knew I was in a place that loved their school. It's not just the campus, it's Tuscaloosa and the surrounding cities, plus all of the other fans around the state and country. Tuscaloosa was a place I did not want to leave and definitely plan on coming back to as soon as I can. I've never seen a fanbase care for their team and school as much as Alabama. Notre Dame and Texas are up there I'm sure, but not many other school are as die hard as Alabama. Of course there are a ton of fan bases that are fair weather and rabid during success, but Alabama, Notre Dame, and Texas are pretty hardcore all year round and every year.

Penn State as well. Only fan base I've ever known that was almost as fanatic/obsessed/diehard/loyal as ours. Norte Dame and Texas have a lot of bandwagoners through the years.
