Few things are as precious to Alabama head football coach Nick Saban than his time. But he was more than happy to spend nearly an hour with the members of the 2009 Alabama Boys State Convention being held this week in Tuscaloosa.

Saban has a fondness for the week-long convention that teaches young men and women about state government. In 1967, a young Nick Saban was a Boys State delegate in West Virginia. His most memorable experience at that convention was striking out during an intra-squad baseball game during the convention while he was an all-state pick as a baseball player.

Saban told the group of 650 or so that without adversity you really can't experience success. He also told those in attendance that being successful takes work ethic and being passionate about what you want to do. Nick Williams of Mobile said the most surprising thing Saban said was that growing up he dreamed of being a GM car dealer.
