1. From my post on Sunday evening regarding the Tide's lone official visitor this past weekend- Braylen Ingraham, three-star defensive end from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. Not much has changed since Sunday evening.
“I have to admit- I really don't know a lot about this player. He transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas for his senior season. He missed most of his junior season due to an injury. He visited Tuscaloosa a few times and returned this weekend for his official visit.
Ingraham was in town with his parents. I'm told he had a fantastic visit. He is also a definite take for the Crimson Tide. I was sort of unsure prior to the visit (and prior to watching his senior film). I knew he was one of about 7-8 DL who I have continued to hear about for a while as an Alabama target.
He supposedly will announce his decision on October 23 (his mother's birthday). Many have assumed Miami is the team to beat. He has named Miami his favorite in the past with Alabama and Kentucky rounding out his top three. Just from speaking to a few people- he is a tough player to reach for an interview and also a very tough player to read.
I have reached out to him with hopes of getting an interview about his visit. I will continue to work a few angles. Just wanted to provide what we have for now regarding this very talented defensive lineman. He measured just under 6-4, 280-pounds during the official visit.
2. John Metchie, four-star wide receiver from The Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey, had a big performance on Friday night in front of Alabama WRs coach Josh Gattis. Metchie had nine catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He recently spoke with Adam Friedman about his conversations with Alabama.
"Everything has been great," Metchie said. "They just tell me to stay healthy. They want me to come in ready to work. Mainly want me as a wide receiver (he plays offense and defense). I will play wherever they need me. Wherever I fit in with the scheme. (Alabama plans to use him as a WR. There is no plan to play him on defense)."
Metchie attended the Penn State/Ohio State game on Saturday night in Happy Valley. This was no surprise to Alabama. He informed Coach Gattis earlier in the week of his plans to attend the game. He is expected to return to Tuscaloosa in November for the Iron Bowl.
"I am committed," he told Friedman. "I know where I'm going.”
3. Paul Tyson, four-star quarterback from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama, continues his fantastic senior season. He completed 16-of-25 for 207 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night in a 41-0 win against Huffman. He broke the high school state record for career touchdown passes (54). The record was previously held by Brandon Cox (52). Tyson has 1,704 yards with 17 touchdowns and one interception this season. Keep in mind he became the starter for the Huskies as a junior.
4. Taulia Tagovailoa, four-star quarterback from Thompson High School in Alabaster, is also having an incredible senior season. Tagovailoa has 1,991 yards with 20 touchdowns and two interceptions.
5. EJ Williams, 2020 three-star wide receiver from Central High School in Phenix City, received an offer from Alabama a few days ago. Alabama WRs coach Josh Gattis recently saw Williams play earlier this season. A very intriguing prospect. He has several offers, but there isn't a lot on film on him. He has more than 400 yards receiving this fall. Keep in mind Justyn Ross was the focal point of the offense in 2017. He is probably more of a prospect Alabama likes, but still want to see him a little bit more before a green light to commit.
6. Jordan Morant, 2020 four-star safety from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, added a new offer from Alabama. I don't know a lot about Moran. I reached out to Adam Friedman to get his thoughts on the new Tide offer.
"He's a smart DB. Not very long. Technically sound. Tough. More of a boundary corner or nickel. Could be a rover type."
7. Eric Taylor, 2020 three-star defensive tackle from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama, also received an offer from Alabama. Will he became the fifth player from Hewitt to commit to Alabama in the 2019/2020 classes? Alabama really likes his size/athleticism. One of those offers where you don't pass on a good, in-state DT. Potential is high.
8. I know I'm not as old as some of you. Some may be able to talk about the Coach Bear Bryant years better than me. I only know what I've read or what my family has told me. However, I have hard time believing there has ever been a better era at the wide receiver position than what we have seen in the last 10 years. I made a comment on my Twitter feed earlier today about it. Just after seeing the way Julio, Amari and Calvin performed on Sunday in the NFL. Looking at the WRs who are currently in Tuscaloosa- Jeudy, Ruggs, Smitty, Waddle. Guys like Robert Foster and Cam Sims (IR) made NFL rosters this year. Gerig Deiter is on the Chiefs practice squad. ArDarius Stewart is on the Jets practice squad.
9. So....speaking of wide receivers. I expect the 2020 class to become a banner year for the Crimson Tide. How? Well...I'm not sure yet. I know Alabama will likely sign four at the position. It is a focal point with the low numbers in this class. I expect Josh Gattis, after a full year under his belt, will tear it up on the recruiting front. You have to think a lot of WRs throughout the country are paying close attention to the offense and the WR performances this year for Alabama. The offense looks pretty exciting to a lot of top offensive playmakers. It's not just the same smash mouth, run it down your throat offense.
10. How good is recruiting going right now in the SEC? The SEC has five of the top 10 schools in the Rivals.com team rankings led by the top three of Georgia, Alabama and Texas A&M. The Aggies have 25 commitments. Alabama has 21 (20, if you don't count Cheney) and Georgia with 18. Keep in mind, only the top 20 players in each class are counted in the final total points. Alabama has a very good chance to re-claim the No. 1 spot when all is said and done with the amount of top recruits remaining on the board. My Rivals Forecast- Alabama finishes with the top class in the country.
