| FTBL Reason For High Ranking

Everyone saw the game, I mean everyone. If you were a voter and you actually watch football games, not so sure all do, you were watching this game.

What the voters saw was not a #24 team, not a #20 team, but a top 15 team, easy.

It was right there on the screen if you stayed home and right in front of your very eyes if you were at the game.

The Alabama team that played Clemson was, quite frankly, one of the best teams to play this past weekend.

That is, if not the best. I watched USC play Virginia and this is not through the eyes of a homer, although I am one, but 'Bama looked more impressive against a much tougher opponent than USC did.

So, that is why our number went so high. The voters saw it, they didn't just see a score on a printout, and just like us, just like everyone in America, they said:

Damn, this 'Bama team is not a joke. That was not a fluke game. The Crimson Tide just played some fundamental type football and that can't be unlearned. They are going places and seemingly getting there fast.

I pay little to no attention to polls until about week 5 or 6, but since Alabama did play a tough opponent out of the gate I was interested in seeing where we ended up in the polls today. I figured we would be about 14th.. which was almost correct in the AP poll, but off on the coaches poll. Clemson has a dolt for a coach, but they are loaded with talent, guys that will be peppering the NFL Draft lists. What Alabama did to them on Saturday night was beyond impressive. It bordered on unimaginable. They key for BAMA obviously is to keep playing well and take care of business. Keep winning and they will keep moving up in the polls. If they lose to a Mississippi State this year, a big win over Clemson won't mean very much. As for the rankings, they will take care of themselves. If BAMA heads into Athens undefeated, all eyes will be watching. If UA could somehow come out of there with a W, they'd get their due respect.

Right, Porter, I agree about the polls. While it is not an absolute indicator, not even in the least, of a team's quality; it is interesting.

Naturally we all want 'Bama to do good and be ranked highly in these polls. On the other hand, they do not help the team to win a game, that is for sure.

As you say, being unbeaten going to Athens will be a great way to gauge the team. An even better way to gauge them will be to see who comes out standing tall when the 4th quarter ends.

I too feel that if we can just keep doing what we did, 'Bama will be pretty well off at the end of the season.

To me, the way they methodically and almost mechanically went through their steps and flawlessly executed the majority of their gameplan is a harbinger of better things to come.

I didn't see a flashy team, a team that hit some lucky shots or passes and got a break here and there. I saw a team that left no questions, left nothing to the imagination.

When I hear people, even players, say that you haven't even seen page one of the playbook yet, it kind of unnerves me.

You know, keep it on page one. Don't open the playbook any further, rip out all the other pages. Let them keep doing what they are doing.

I think Bama was the most impressive team this weekend Bar None!! USC thumping Virgina doesn't impress me b/c they were supposed to thump them. Wyoming beat Virginia last year, so USC doing what they did doesn't impress me.

But, the key is can we keep playing like that?

Let me piggy back on this a minute...

I'm looking at these next two games more so than I am looking forward to the SEC schedule and here's why:

1. Will that same team that beat clemson tack about 50 on a Tulane and Western Kentucky team like they should or play down like has been done in the past?

2. Will the players continue to have the positive attitude to kick the teeth in two cup cakes and maintian focus on the big picture?

I agree 100000000%

I think that is what CNS is looking for. That same type of consistency that he preaches. I think they will be pretty emotional this weekend because it is the first home game and the crowd will be jacked up therefore the team feeds off of that. I think CNS wants the team to come out and go about their business of blocking, tackling and running the ball down their throats!

AP was more generous than the coaches poll but truthfully why should either rank us high because of one very impressive win. We had one against Florida a few years ago and it got us on the cover of Sports Illustrated, then we reverted back under Shula. Last year, we started strong and faltered in the end. The process is working and I believe 100% that we will again reside where we are supposed to be but honestly we need a few more wins and a lot less losses especially in November to earn our spot. The game against Georgia will be a true measure as will how we play against lesser opponents the next few weeks, but we aren't finished even if we are still undefeated after the game in Athens. Roll Tide.
