ran across this today and thought some of you might enjoy reading it.

gonna sure be interesting to see how Coach Nuss works with Alec, after seeing what he did with Locker/Price I'll admit I have some big expectations.

For those that don't know, Allen, TX is a single high school town population 95,000+ in the city, the high school probably has 4500 kids in the school. Single HS town is kinda rare in North Dallas, as most cities of that size choose to go multi high school during the growth boom. Allen is a 5A school - the largest in Texas, believe the UIL is considering 6A during the next realignment in a few years.

His coach steps into a portion of the reason I was in favor of Mike Groh getting the OC job. Love Nuss, don't get me wrong.

Nice find Matt! Have you joined that site...or just reading articles?

haven't joined yet, just one of the areas I check for articles. there are a few good points in that article.

also, gonna send you some really interesting sites in a bit...haven't even begun to dig the data yet - kinda had information overload last night when I ran across them.

I watched them play someone on ESPN and they were showing their band and mentioning that they had over 600 MEMBERS!!! And that they will be expanding their stadium in which it will hold over 19K+. That is serious dedication to some High School Football.

their stadium is pretty slick from what I've seen. wouldn't mind catching a game their this year if the opportunity presents itself.

yeah, they had like 40-50 kids sign with colleges @ allen high alone.

football alone (17):

  • Alec Morris, QB, Alabama
  • Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas
  • Abe Abdelkarim, OL, Nevada
  • Cortland Tolbert, WR, Air Force
  • Andrew Rodriguez, WR, Houston
  • Thaddeus LaGrone, LB, Houston
  • Anthony Adams, WR, Arkansas Tech
  • Alex Miller, DB, Navarro
  • Jacob Trotter, OL, McMurry
  • Mason Massei, OL, Drake
  • L.B. Bates, DB, Trinity Valley
  • Prince Sam, DB, Langston
  • Brandyn Bolling, DL, Southwest Baptist
  • Deandre Hill, DL/LB, Langston
  • Kimani Smith, DB, Langston
  • Tommy Stewart, DL, Langston
  • Brandon Franklin, DL, Southwest Baptist.

My biggest concern with Morris is somewhat addressed in this article. I don't know how much faith to put in the word of his coach.

KM: "He did not operate out of the gun most of the time, he did it 100% of the time and we knew we were going to have to focus on this the minute he signed to play in a pro- style offense. As soon as his senior season ended, we started working from under center. Having him push off, taking 3, 5 and 7 step drops. We have not had any issues making the transition though. Once I got him comfortable driving out from under center, making play fakes and throwing off of his last step in his drop progression, there have been zero issues. I have been very impressed with the way Alec has worked to improve this part of his game. The only issue will be how quickly Alec can adjust to the mental side of the game. Playing QB at the college level, you have to call the protections, move you OL, slide your RB’s and tell the TE which side he needs to line up on. That will be an adjustment for him, bc honestly; most HS offenses are very simplistic. Once you get to the college level, running the offense from the QB’s perspective is very detailed. The first thing is, you better know your protection, the formation and the checks. Really this is something that you can’t learn from reading the playbook either. You have to see it live. You have to see the DL shift, the LB’s walk up or the safety’s rotating. But, you have to see it at the same speed as you would in an SEC game on Saturday

"Surprise is not good, especially for a young QB. Alec is only 17 years old and he is walking into a very combustible environment. I make him watch the ESPN documentary Roll Tide/War Eagle a lot. I want him to understand he is walking into a circus that does not ever slow down. I mean, you people are nuts when it comes to football."
