Considering the number of injuries this year in SEC play, both in the pre-season and during the first quarter of play, injuries seem to be the ideal place to start this quick overview of practice yesterday.

We only have one guy that was held out of contact work yesterday, Preston Dial. I don't know the extent of his injury or for that matter what it is. That said, I'd imagine Coach Saban will address it this afternoon in his press conference if Preston still can't play.

We have used Dial a lot this season. He's had very little work with the 1st string. Most of his work has been in short yardage situations, goal line work, etc. So, if he's in black today (no contact jersey color) I wouldn't expect him to play Saturday.

On the brighter side of injuries, our OL returns intact for the second straight week. I mention this because the running game we have is being spotlighted quite a bit this week, we'll undoubtedly look to run between the tackles like we have been, and this unit playing at full strength bodes well for BAMA considering the injuries that have plagued UGA's defensive front line.

Speaking of line play and UGA, while it isn't set in stone, all signs seem to point to the Bulldogs starting a true freshman at Center this weekend.

The linebackers have been getting quite a bit of work this week and that continued yesterday. After a poor display Saturday against Arkansas the staff have been putting a lot of emphasis on fundamentals with group, specifically tackling.

The second area the staff spent a lot of time on yesterday was two fold. One being the zone assignments with the linebackers again. That, along with tackling, was another area they struggled with against Arkansas.

On specific players...

Dont'a Hightower was getting a lot of attention from Coach Steele and Coach Thompson yesterday. One area has been getting him extra reps in preparation in defending screen attacks. Georgia attacked the middle a lot last year in middle screens and it's an easy assumption to think Coach Richt is going to do the same thing again with Hightower being a target of the Georgia offense.

We can also expect to see a lot of our nickel package this weekend and Dont'a was getting most of the reps with our first team nickel group. In our recognition drills Prince was getting most of the reps with our second group.

Our CB's are getting extra attention as well considering they are facing off against a great due on A.J. Green and Mohamed Massaquoi. Both are down-field threats so our 3 corners have been getting a lot of work on jamming them on the line of scrimmage to get their timing off and disrupt their reps.

That type of coverage requires a lot of help from the safeties "over the top." Both the 1's and 2's were worked with exclusively in their recognitions. Mark Barron and Robby Green were getting the most reps in these nickel situations.

By all indications, we are going to try to get as much pressure as possible with, at most, a 4 man rush. That idea, much like Clemson, is to stop the run first and foremost and it's the best way to defend the screen plays that UGA has used so successfully in the past.

The update on practice today will be posted here Weds night or Thursday morning...more than likely Thursday morning.

Very informative yet again, Terry. I've come to look forward to reading your practice updates every morning. I'm very glad to hear the staff is getting them to work on their tackles. There was one point in the Ark game where I saw Prince just kinda ram his shoulder into their RB....Smith I think, and just bounced off. We try that kinda stuff against Moreno and co. then we'll be in for a long day.

Was talking to a UGA grad...he mentioned them starting 2 frosh on the oline this week?
Lets hope DH wraps up this week. He read the screen last week, just did not wrap up the back.

Great stuff as always, TP.

The one that ticked me off the most was Josh Chapman running into Casey Dick for what would have been a sure sack but he bounced off and continued with the play.

Strange last weekend...being up by 3+ possessions and ticked off at how we were playing.

Ah, good times, good memories...of the last time that has happened.

Do you agree with my assessment that UGA is a similar to Clemson in a lot of ways? Clemson probably spreads you out more, but UGA's way of attacking an offense may be more in our favor - if the matchups are as I believe them to be.

I do.

I think our game plan is going to be virtually identical.

That said, I know the offense has been working on some things the last few weeks that we haven't seen in a game yet. I wonder if we see it this week.

IF we do, I guarantee you those watching at home will jump off of their couches when they do!

The only difference I can see going into this game is we'll see a few blitz packages we haven't seen before...but, that is too be expected about everytime we hit the field anyway.

Once again I log on this morning to pure joyful posts on here.

Keep 'em coming Terry. a$#

They've been shuffling all season. As to two frosh, I haven't seen an injury report or a projected depth chart from UGA as of yet.

Georgia's scout site is reporting Ben Jones, true frosh, is getting his second start at center.

King, WR, is said to be out. He's a back-up.

Terry thanks for the practice updates. People wake up and read your posts but im already up cause of the time difference in iraq so i preety much wait all day to see what updates and posts you put on here. Thanks again

Yeah, there is a surprise or two, to be sure - I am having to be careful though, I feel like I am drinking magic Kool Aide when I think about it. I have to temper my expectations and trust what we have done already.

In 2005, well all through his era actually, I took a lot of flak for saying no matter the record we had serious problems on our offensive line. That was the year I was saying our defense was the only thing that would take us through.

On that point I was trying, to no avail, to temper expectations.

Now? Hell, go with it!!!

It's high time we can get excited about our team. I still think we'll drop a couple, but what we have expected to see under this Saban staff is falling together. We see it, others see it but are resorting to "Internet antics" trying to live in the past decade (ironic, isn't it?) while all the time knowing it's coming...

Next year, full steam ahead fella!

I think the 2nd True Frosh that you're thinking of is Cordy Glenn, a guy that we were after pretty hard at one point in time last year. He's been starting off-and-on for them this season, but nonetheless will get plenty of PT whether he is starting or not.

I just watched the game yesterday for the 1st time since being out of town all weekend. Hmmmm, the final score was a little deceiving. My biggest concern right now is kick coverage. We were pretty horrible on defending kick-off returns on Sat.

I'm sure the coaches are aware of that, but I haven't read of really any mention of it this week. Does Moreno field their kick-offs and punts? If so, my nerves will be going every time we kick-off/punt. Gotta shore up that part of our game to be successful.

This is the Jones from Alabama that we supposedly "let" get away. I remember UGA fans thinking they had scored a big one by stealing him from us. I also remember our staff was bigger on the Barrett Jones and Tyler Love's of that class. I'm sure he will play with extra emotion and energy because of that, but man a true frosh at center is tough.
