my girlfriend isn't a big football fan so i've had the task of trying to slowly indoctrinate her into the Bama family. well, i took her to her first Bama game last season (against LSU). before kickoff we purchased a bunch of Bama apparel and she even got one of those houndstooth hats for women to go with my Nike houndstooth baseball cap that i was already wearing. later during the game she asked me a question to which i had no answer. she asked me about Bama's fascination with the houndstooth hats and the houndstooth print in general. i started to explain that it was the pattern of Coach Bryant's hat, but i then realized he actually didn't wear houndstooth hats. am i missing something here?

Here's Coach Bryant in a "houndstooth" hat that is really a gingham check. Any ladies who know material will know what I'm talking about.

Coach Bryant wore both patterns and they became known, collectively, as "houndstooth hats."
