I feel terrible, guilty, and i know that it's because i'm spoiled rotten. I'm used to eating prime rib and rizzoto this time of year and now it seems like sloppy joes.

Bama vs. OU is somehow less exciting than it should be. I know that when gametime gets here i'll be ready and i'm sure i will love seeing the guys play again, but i would like to anticipate it at least a little.

Any hype/get pumped up videos or statements bashing me are welcome. All is fair game.

My next door neighbor is an OU grad and guy across the street from me was a walk-on at OU back in the 70s. Plus living in Oklahoma (North Dallas), I have no problem getting ready to play OU - (Oldtimer should catch the meaning of this comment).

Hell, remember the home/home series 10 years ago...that alone should get ya pumped if you ask me.

A loss and all we'll hear in the offseason is how far we have fallen. A win and it'll be Bama is a Top-4 seed ready to take it again next year.

I have no problem being ready, and anxious, to trample the land thieves. They did toy with us in our last meetings.

RTR,

Tim

Just as a side note:

I found it amusing that our series with OU, 1-2-1, featured two bowl appearances. We won one, tied the other.

The tie featured a missed field goal...horribly missed field goal.

So, as something to boost your confidence—based on our recent play over the last few years—at worst we should end the game in OT (since we can't have a tie anymore.)

The thing about those two games, Tim, is it was during a period where Stoops had his OU team at their highest and our program was spinning. There was a talent disparity between the two teams; a fairly large one in my opinion.

Yet, still good ball games.

I can still hear analyst saying, "Shula had his first test of his coaching career and at 1-1 he's off to a better start than Bryant." Turns my stomach.

You know...thinking back about 2003 it's not the fake punt that comes immediately to mind. It was one of Shula's calls at the end of the game. If you recall, we were in the red zone, it was 4th and long (15-17 yards?) with under two to play and he chose to kick a FG.

I still wonder why he didn't take a shot at the EZ...lose by 10 or lose by 7...still a loss.

I just remember the feeling of inevitability that they would win. We could pull out the stops with the onside kick out there, but my feeling was that in watching them score quickly that they could have made it a bit more painful to watch. I think Stoops knew he had us covered.

The game in Norman is one where I felt that way.

Perhaps it was the crowd in BDS, or pure faith, but that 2003 game was one would could have won; probably should have won.

Alabama is playing. That is enough to be excited about. I realized last night I was not enjoying games as much anymore as I was too worried about where we were ranked and where other teams were ranked. Just a few years ago we would have been ecstatic about going to any bowl.

FSU wallops the barn, and Bama does the same to OU. Bama finishes #2 in front of the barn. Furthermore, all Stoops has been able to parrot in the last couple of years is the little 12 is just as compatible with the SEC. You know he had to go run for a new depends after seeing his worst bowl scenario come true. I assume you did love the outcome of the Capital One Bowl a few years ago. This could very well be the same. Btw, that was a good springboard to consecutive national championships. I'm ready! RTR!

I'm sort of with the OP. Due to the lofty heights from which we've been viewing the landscape, it' evident there’s only one bowl game that means anything. We watched that one run away from us after a missed field goal and another field goal we didn’t even try.

I don’t think a win or a loss affects next year either way. Bama will field a different team next year. Why would a win or a loss by this year’s team affect their ranking? If you don’t believe me, ask yourself how many passing yards you think our quarterback will have next year.

I want to see Bama win no matter what they’re playing. Heck, I plan to watch them play UCLA in basketball tonight. I love watching the Tide. But the Sugar Bowl and the Alabama football team still have me mumbling ā€œwould-shoulda-couldaā€. I hope they kick Stoops’ teeth in. I have to admit though, I won’t be hoarse after the game.

Where does Louisville end up ranked in the preseason this year if they lost to Florida in last years bowl game? Remember, this was the same Loiusville team that lost to Rutgers and Cuse last year in the last of November.

Where would LSU have been ranked if they'd have beaten Clemson in ATL? Without that win, would Clemson have been considered a top 10 team?

What about a Bama loss to OU in the Sugar? Do you think it would have any bearing on where they start next season?

Louisville had a returning quarterback. I think that’s the kicker (no pun intended) with Alabama’s team next year. It will be much different. Next year’s Bama team might have 11 to 13 different starters than this year’s team. We are familiar with many of the backups and with the roster, and we may be in agreement that next year’s team might even be better in many respects. I still don’t think the Sugar Bowl has a thing to do with that.
Another point: Florida State was 12-1 last year after winning their bowl game decisively and came out ranked number 11. Eleven. (Consensus of all polls. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/8/27/4657906/preseason-poll-consensus )

That being said, I hope I’m wrong. I hope the Tide wins big and that convinces voters that next year’s team will resemble the one that dismantles the Sooners.

And here we were coming off of a 9-3 regular season in 2010, starting a new quarterback, and started the 2011 season ranked #2. Do you think that Cap One win over Sparty had anything to do with that poll?

It's a bit ironic that OU won their bowl game in 2010, had two regular season losses, and started the year ranked #1.

Just a thought, but even with Bama starting a new QB I don't see that having much of an effect on how we're ranked. We'll hear "all they require is a game manager for their offense to work."

How true is that!!! Well,I hope you are right. FSU is the kicker though. Not highly ranked in the preseason this year and basically a mirror image of Bama this season should the Tide win the Sugar.

Yes, but let's paint the rest of that picture.

You have to go all the way back to 2003 to find a season where they finished with three losses. Since then they've had two with four, the rest were worse.

How do you weigh a team that has 12-1 season when you have to go back to 2000 to find the two loss season?

It's my opinion FSU comes in with that #11 ranking because history told the voters chances are it was a fluke.

Let me add this. Remember who these voters are and how many times they've been burnt by Florida State?

I thought #11 was spot on.

Never just brush aside tendencies.

True there. And, they don't have Saban. Time will tell. One thing is certain: a win sure wouldn't hurt.

Think about this for a second.

How many starting quarterbacks has Florida State been through since 2000? Put that with the voters thinking...

Preseason poll's next season will be interesting with people trying to forecast what the committee is thinking.
