PHIL STEELE on ESPN rolled out his top 10 at the beginning of the season. He has the top 4 like this:

    1. OSU
    2. TCU
    3. USC
    4. ALABAMA

(By the way, he has UGA at #6, LSU is at # 10 and Auburn at # 14)

He took a lot of flak from the panel he was being interviewed by about why he thinks Alabama should be a #4 team and, if everything plays out as Phil expects, will be in the PLAYOFF again this year.

He started off by saying that in his opinion Alabama has the #1 Defense in the country and he bases it on his opinion that Alabama has the # 1 D-line, the #3 set of linebackers and the #7 set of DB's. Phil says that in his opinion this makes Alabama have the best defense in the country.

He thinks that Alabama will probably lose one game at least in the season with the toughest schedule in the country this year as well. (He thinks USC has the 2nd toughest schedule by the way).

He also says Alabama's linebackers are 'faster' this year which will help them in underneath routes and this will help the secondary as well; also, he likes the "talented athletes" in the secondary.

As far as Offense, Phil thinks among 6 or 7 guys (who are capable) a few will step up and emerge at WR this year in the absence of Cooper and he mentioned that as far as QB is concerned this year that Alabama won two national championships in the past few years with first year starters and 'Alabama should be fine' at QB this year with the playmakers on offense".

He really was pretty high on Alabama this year despite the tough schedule and no Amari and 1st year QB.

I think we have more going for us than against us. These analyst ESPN is starting to use are a bunch of dumbasses. They all want to dogpile on top of the SEC after kidding our asses for so many years. We'll see how it plays out on the field because none of those wormy bastards actually have a thing to do with how we perform.

I was dozing through this, but perked up when I heard Robert Smith saying that Alabamaws overrated th last two seasons. In 2013 a little better performance against the Barn on any one of half a dozen plays would have won that game, putting us into the championship game versus FSU. I am of the school of thought that playing for less than the crystal football was a large factor in the Oklahoma game. In 2014 we were one of the four teams picked for the playoff, and just plain got beat in the OSU game. Overrated perhaps by some miniscule factor not easily measurable. Smith's comments were an attention grabber. I am not sure why he felt the need for that. The last few years I thought he had been pretty objective in discussing Alabama. Kanell is a tool.

He left out JK Scott. He's too big of a weapon not to be included in a team analysis.

How awesome is that guy? Losing Mandel was one of my concerns last year because he had been solid for us. Then JK comes in and made me forget all about Mandel... kid is a stud and should with the Ray Guy the next 3 years. #JKforHeisman

They need to do a complete 180 and use their last performance as motivation. When Utah exposed the 2008 squad, the '09 used the "Finish" poster as motivation to never let that happen again. They need to instill that kind of swagger back into the team and make them scare the shit out of opponents again. More and more teams look forward to playing Bama now because they want their big moment on tv. Time for the team to get serious

This is exactly what they are doing. Swag is off the charts.

Same feeling I had when we replaced Tinker with Mazza, Cole hasn't missed a beat.

He's not bad, but he has made more mistakes than Tinker or the guy before him. IIRC, there was a bad snap in the SECCG last season that could have been disaster for Scott. Scott recovered and got the punt off, but got hit by Mizzou. By rule, since he got the punt off, it should have been a roughing penalty, but wasn't called.

I agree everytime Saban speaks about this team he mentions JK Scott as being a big playmaker on special teams, he makes a huge difference ...can flip the field and be a game changer
