Poorly written, I agree. But, I think the guy hit the nail on the head. Everything he said was pretty much spot-on from my perspective.

Of course, I'm also the guy that has said Joe Pa is 15 years past retirement. I honestly believe that too. Penn State is trying to do the "right" thing, but in the end, Paterno might find himself looking a lot like Bobby Bowden and getting booted. Sometimes, people should know when to quit.

Hell, the majority of the time he wasn't even wearing his glasses to watch what was happening and looked bored. I truly think he's just the "face" of the program. They do need to move on though.

Thats not what I meant... I mean, to me at least, it seems like he's possibly just handed over the day to day, game planning, etc. stuff to someone else (his son?).

Fair enough, but whatever the situation is, its his exists because he allows it.

I had a thought, a pondered question actually, that I think might paint his and PSU's situation in a different light.
QUESTION: If he resigned today and expressed an interest to go coach elsewhere, is there a BCS conference school out there who would hire him? I'm not sure that there is, but ONLY because of his age. One way or another, he had his team ranked, and there were a hundred other teams that would trade positions.

Would you equate PSU to where we were a decade ago? Its close I suppose, except they have one of the most loved coaches in all of sport to keep their spirits up.

It's not as if he couldn't hear the communication happening within the staff both on the field and in the press box. I'm sure he had some type of speaker system in place for this game like he has in the past.

All that said, I don't know what other facial expression one would expect a coach to have. They were getting beaten in every aspect of the game. One successful drive in reality and it cost them three time-outs to put three points on the board. Those mistakes, like a wrong formation for the first time out, could be placed at the feet of the position coach as much as it could be placed at the feet of the player who was out of position. (If they would have snapped the ball they would have been flagged for not enough players on the LOS.)

The second and third timeout were all coaching mistakes and communication break-downs. Hell, they hadn't even broken the huddle when they ran out of time on the last time out.

LOL. Well he is in his 80s. But having watched the game myself... I can certainly understand his bouts of near dozing off.

He's been the coach forever, Penn State is a FOOTBALL school and they haven't been a legitimate contender in years, no one should be writing this article but it is true and everyone knows it: Penn State will not return to anything resembling prominence until he leaves and someone else is there to energize the program. The Penn State fans sitting behind me in the stadium the other day actually said the same thing, and I quote, "I love the guy but he's just tarnishing his legacy by still being here" I kinda whispered back and forth with the people I was with that I mean I totally agree, I just wouldn't say that out loud. But it's true, all he's doing is tarnishing his legacy by sticking around as a manager of that team. No one under him can take enough power to return the team to prominence as long as he's there. And besides, think about this: in the Big 10 right now you have a few power schools (relatively speaking of course), those are OSU, Nebraska, MSU, and if I missed one I'm sorry, but that's it off the top of my head. Think about that, Nebraska and MSU are considered power schools in the Big 10, while OSU is THE power, guess what-- they're about to go on probation, IMO this is the PERFECT time for PSU to step up and get a new energetic coach to come in there and take control of that conference. Not only is it necessary of the school to do it now, but it also is the perfect timing.

Yeah, I thought that was weird. I've been watching college football for over 30 years, and I've NEVER seen a team use ALL THREE timeouts on one drive. And they only got a field goal out of it.

Joe Pa retiring?

I really think the biggest reason they can't get big talent is because the coaching is a big unknown for high school players. They don't want to go to a 'football' school if they don't have any idea what the coaching staff is going to look like next year. I think there are few people that think that Joe will be there in four years.

Besides, why play football anywhere but in the SEC if you want the best?
