This is a long read, and it isn't the least bit appealing to the eye. I've done a couple of double-takes here.

IF you recall, Robinson said they had two stories coming. This is their "8." The number eight as in a ranking on a scale of ten. He went on to mention they have a "10" coming in the fall.

Embattled scouting service owner Will Lyles told Yahoo! Sports that University of Oregon coach Chip Kelly personally approved a controversial $25,000 fee that sparked an ongoing NCAA investigation and was in constant contact as Lyles provided the Ducks with recruiting assistance that may have violated NCAA rules.

In a wide-ranging, multi-day interview, Lyles said Kelly ā€œscrambledā€ in late February and asked Lyles to submit retroactive player profiles to justify the $25,000 payment to his company, just days before the transaction was revealed in a March 3 Yahoo! Sports report. Lyles also provided details of his fledgling company – Complete Scouting Services (CSS) – as well as the extent of his relationship with numerous Texas high school stars and his role in Ducks’ recruitment of certain prospects.

Lyles insists Oregon did not make a direct request or payment to steer recruits to Eugene. However, he now says Oregon did not pay him for his work as a traditional scout, but for his influence with top recruits and their families and his
ability to usher prospects through the signing and eligibility process. That dual role as mentor to prospects and paid contractor to Oregon is believed to be a focus of the NCAA probe.

ā€œI look back at it now and they paid for what they saw as my access and influence with recruits,ā€ Lyles said. ā€œThe service I provided went beyond what a scouting service should … I made a mistake and I’m big enough of a man to admit I was wrong.ā€

Another danger of street agents--if you turn your back on them...

I feel bad for Lache. It seems like he was pulled in 38 directions. There was the interview where he sounded like he would've signed with us but we "quit calling back", then it was widely assumed he would go to USC until Carroll jumped ship. Now it is revealed his mom tried to force him to LSU. After all this, it appears he may lose at least some eligibility at Oregon. I know he riled you guys with the Saban comments at BCW but at least he personally called to apologize. He seems like a young, immature kid that didnt know how to handle the spotlight.

As for Chip, wow. Hand written notes?! Are you F'N kidding me?! He deserves to be fired for sheer stupidity.

There is another SI article that says Lyles may fall in a legislative gray area for the NCAA. How you read Yahoo's report and view him as anything other than a "representative of the school's interest". 6-1 odds he now sings to the NCAA. He was also quoted saying he didn't disclose everything to them that he did to Yahoo, Sports. I'm thinking that will change now.

pretty obvious the dude has nothing to lose now, I'd imagine all the programs that he was working with have stepped away, new ones aren't returning/answering calls. guess that explains how wide open he is being now.

someone said this a while ago, don't remember who, but Oregon hasn't been use to "cheating" to the degree as other programs - guess that explains why they received old data and never really looked at it. just damn. wonder if they dig all the way to phil knight.

I also wonder how this will impact their season opener, as I was looking forward to watching it here in Jerry World.

I'll try my hand at a conspiracy theory here duder...you won't take it the wrong way and I KNOW you know I'm just kiddin' around.

Lache's remarks to Saban, filmed at the first BCW for those who might not remember, is what really put the spotlight on Seastrunk. At the point the story of his phone call to Saban to apologize hit the media wires—within a week and reportedly forced by mother—there was so much attention on Lache that Auburn was forced to back off with their plans.

Why did he choose Oregon over Auburn?

So much for my theories... eheheheh.:headscratch:

What's interesting?

He said he spent six hours talking to the NCAA, but when asked if it was about Oregon, Kelly, or another others involved he said no.

What was he talking to the NCAA about for six hours besides Oregon?

So, side note--I was still half asleep and using the app on my iPad so forgive the HORRIBLE spelling.

Terry, he was obviously talking about Oregon. However, he said he didn't tell them everything he revealed to Yahoo. The NCAA has reached out again to follow-up. It will be interesting to see how this actually plays out.

I don't bring this up to be negative, but could this not be construed as a situation similar to Albert Means, if not worse?

I forgot about the mother forcing him.

You're probably right, Terry! Don't tell the TideSports people that...

Corrected.

Rivals/Yahoo's purchase of that has been a blessing in disguise. There's not near as many inane questions and rumors coming out this summer versus last.

Chip Kelly may be a sitting Duck as Will Lyles blows the whistle on Oregon football

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -

Bruce Pearl
, dead.

Jim Tressel, dead.

Chip Kelly?

The head Duck may be a sitting duck, too.

Professionally speaking.

The Oregon football coach may be the latest victim of the same kind of self-inflicted career wound as the former Tennessee basketball coach and the former Ohio State football coach.

Failure to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

C&P from another forum...

As you all know, in March Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports did an interview on ESPNradio 1000 in Chicago and revealed that he had two additional significant stories in the works (one he labeled an 8, and the other he labeled a 10). He stated that the "10" would be released in August, and that he had been working on it for "about 4 months" at that point.

Going back about 4 months from early March 2011 would land us in late November or early December 2010, which of course is around the same time a firestorm of controversy surrounded Auburn and Cam Newton following a controversial (only controversial to those who don't understand the reinstatement process) NCAA ruling declaring Newton eligible.

So, what was Charles Robinson working on last November? Here are three separate articles that might offer a hint.

Article #1: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-greengross110510
Article #2: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=cr-newtonnext11110
Article #3: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=cr-newton120110

It is very important to note that Charles Robinson isn't a standard reporter who covers the sport of college football or the NFL in general, he is an investigative reporter.

A search of Robinson's work over the last 8+ months shows that the only stories he has released involving college programs include 4 schools; Ohio State, USC, Oregon, and Auburn. Robinson was personally responsible for initially breaking stories on the USC, Oregon, and Ohio State football programs concerning major scandal and corruption necessitating NCAA sanctions at USC, and impending sanctions at Ohio State and possibly Oregon. An NCAA investigation of Auburn is currently ACTIVE and on-going.

Despite rumor to the contrary, at NO POINT during his interview did Robinson ever rule out ANY school from being included in his August story. Confusion on this issue stemmed from Colin Cowherd stating on his radio show earlier this year that sources had told him another Yahoo story would be following the Ohio State release, and it was Cowherd who included THAT story "wouldn't be about Auburn". He was correct; as Yahoo went on to release their first report on Oregon a few days later.
