🏈 Overtime in College Football

The current Division 1 overtime rules have now been in effect for over a decade and while the new system was originally received with a significant degree of apprehension, we've all had an opportunity to see it in use many, many times.

I'm curious as to the board's thoughts on the current overtime system. Do you see it as a success or a failure? Is there a better solution?

Personally, I see it as an overwhelming success. After 60 minutes of hard-fought, highly contested, competitive football, what more could a fan want then to see even more do-or-die red zone situations where both offenses and defenses are put to the ultimate test.

What do you guys think?

The only thing I can see as an improvement would be moving the starting point back to the 35 yard line.

Considering the field goal distance is now 42 yards if a team fails to move the ball on their first three downs that is by no means a "gimme."

On a different note, there's a thread on the pro sports forum about the NFL overtime...check it out when you get a chance.

I like it better than not having OT, and it is better than the NFL's sudden death. But, I do believe they should back them up out of field goal range for the start.

Hate to bring this up, but it was my understanding that UA had the worst record in overtime since its inseption. Is this still true?

Depends on how you look at it. It's not good, that's for sure.

Some teams have a worse winning percentage. As example, South Carolina has never won a game in OT.

We've had what, nine or ten games go to OT? I want to say we've won three, LSU might have made four.
