šŸˆ OT: It's being reported that Gruden has expressed interest in the TX job...

Butch Davis..............this is a job tailor made for Butch Davis

Arkansas screwed the pooch by not offering him their job.

Can you imagine how differently things would have turned out if he kept his commitment in 1999-2000 and took the Bama HC job instead of Cleveland? Hell, imagine his regret.

Butch Davis was the hot coaching commodity 10 yrs ago.

Bobby Petrino screwed the pooch when he hooked up with that blonde working in the Arkansas football department.

Arkansas screwed the pooch when they didn't give Petrino a second chance.

Arkansas screwed the pooch again when they hired a 1-dimensional running game only coach.

Now, you are a bit of an enigma.

I'm literally wondering if you're a dumb-ass. Don't take that wrong. I call my best friends dumb-asses.

However, however, in this case? There's so much simply wrong here...I'm left, almost speechless.

Old Timer, are you saying you wouldn't take Petrino in a heartbeat?

As much as I like Saban, I don't think Texas has to have a home run on this coaching hire. I think a lot of coaches can be successful at Texas.

As for whether or not I'd take Petrino, that would be a tough call. I think he is a great coach. His rebuilding job at Arkansas was phenomenal in the short time he was there. Unfortunately, he made a very bad mistake. I do believe in 2nd chances, and I would take Petrino at Texas. However, I would be very hesitant to do so now. Petrino needs a few more years at another place doing things with high morals. Texas is one of the best universities in the world. The standards of integrity and ethical behavior is higher than most other universities.

It depends on what you consider success. One National Championship in 43 years? I'm not sure you measure success in Texas the same way we do at Alabama.

All I have heard over the years is how much money they have. Until they fix the problems of the self elitist powers to be, that have their hands in everything about the football program, it will be another 43 years.

A home run hire for a program like Texas may not be necessary because they do have many recruiting advantages, but wouldn't you like one? I mean Mack Brown wasn't considered a home run hire at the time, but what he did from the dismal years Texas went through, I'd say he ended up being a good HC. Honestly, I think Charlies Strong should be the guy to go after. Look what he has done at Louisville. Probably the only HC out there that is available to being hired with a philsophy that Texas wants. Puts a lot of emphasis on being a strong defense, ball control on offense, and then being disciplined as a team.

Jimbo Fisher fits that bill as well...

One National Championship in 43 years is not what I would consider successful, but Texas went a span of 35 years without a National Championship, not 43 years. Small point, but it's true. Look it up.

I. think it would be reasonable to expect that a school like Texas, with the resources it has and the recruiting that is easily accessible in the state... I think it would be expected of a coach at Texas who makes in the top 5 salaries among NCAA coaches to have an expectation of competing for, at least, Big 12 championships yearly, and in the national title hunt most years. I think there are a lot of coaches out there at can do this. Is there one coach in particular that I think would be the safest bet to bring Texas back to prominence? Of course, and that's Saban.

Gruden is an interesting pick. Risky in that there is really no track record of him as a college head coach to see how well he can recruit and coach younger athletes. Still, I like his moxie. I think he could do well at Texas.
