~His quarterback rating of 170.9 ranks fourth in the nation and leads SEC starters. In terms of completion percentage, Sims is 18th nationally at 66.5. In Nick Saban's offense taking care of the football is Job 1 and Sims' interception total of three ranks behind SEC headliners like Dak Prescott (4), Bo Wallace (6) and Kenny Hill (8).

~So let's compare Sims' numbers to those of Greg McElroy (2009) and AJ McCarron(2011) through seven games. Each threw almost the same number of passes with Sims' 176 followed by McCarron's 174 and McElroy's 173. McCarron had the slight advantage in completion percentage (67.2 to 66.5), but Sims has 368 more yards and four more touchdowns. His 249.7 quarterback rating dwarfs McCarron's (197.1) and McElroy's (137.57).

~Also keep in mind Sims is the Tide's third leading rusher (40 attempts, 208 yards). He nets 5.2 yards per attempt, the same average as Derrick Henry and just behind T.J. Yeldon's 5.3. Sims has been sacked just four times throwing 176 passes while Coker's been taken down three times in 41 throws.

He has certainly exceeded my expectations. I have never seen a QB improve so much so fast.

I really like that he ripped off that big run on the read option. i'm telling you, his running skills have been underestimated. He is a great runner and could easily take over a game with his feet. Should have used that against Ole Siss/Ark.

Maybe we should ALL wait until the season is complete before we compare our first year quarterbacks. Me included. Sims rating took a hit last night with a QBR of 49. LSU's Jennings rated 12.

Simms did have a tough game last night & fortunately he made the plays when it counted. The thing that is standing out to me is that he made pretty good decisions for the most part of the game, with the exception of the sack (he should have thrown it away). He just missed on the execution of a few (the overthrown pass to C Jones for example).

I'd wager, though, that he has a pretty good grasp of what Kiffin is doing now. I say this due to the many checks that he had w/ Kiffin that resulted in a change of play to pass for the most part. Kiffin knows how to exploit all of these defenses & he sees something on almost every play. Last night, Simms seemed to catch them or get it in from Kiffin. However, as reflected in all of the other away games, Simms is having the challenge of relaying to the rest of the team, in particular the WR's. I am of the opinion the lack offensive production was due to overdoing it more than LSU just winning out.

That is why our Offense is throttling everyone at home. Kiffin is recognizing everything, Simms gets it faster, & relays it better to the rest. No too bad for a first year starter QB & new offense. I am sooooo glad that we have the next 3 games at home. Don't be surprised if the Offense destroys everyone, especially that AU defense.

==>>I'll add one caveat<<== Our other running backs need to buckle up their chinstraps (ahem Tenpenny) because our 2 deep rotation is hurting, this may very well be the Achilles to the offense.
 
The internal fortitude and mental strength it took for Sims to take the ball with less than a minute left in the game, and drive the team down for the game tying fg then the game winning td pass in overtime says something. It says he's got what it takes to win in the clutch. Though he had a bad game he pulled himself and the team together when it counted the most. That is a sign of a championship qb. He's no Peyton Manning but it doesn't take a Peyton Manning to win a college national championship. Manning didn't win one BTW.
