When Sheldon Richardson first made the comment about "old man football" and the SEC I thought it was a stupid statement. Now, I believe it was a stupid statement coming from a stupid person.

He missed some classes this year and the staff handed down his punishment which he didn't complete...and now he's suspended.

Defensive leader and star Sheldon Richardson has gone from “old man football” to “no man football” heading into Saturday’s contest against Syracuse.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound monster has collected 70 tackles and four sacks in helping his Tigers get acclimated to SEC football as a spirited defensive leader. So talented is Richardson that NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has him listed at No. 16-overall on the 2013 Big Board.

However, he most notably made headlines before ever playing a game in the conference, when he claimed Georgia played “old man football” and that Mizzou could not be stopped.

However, Richardon and Co. were stopped, time and time again, in fact, and now sit at 5-5 after starting the season 3-0.
The Tigers need only one win in its last two games to earn bowl-eligibility, but with a season finale scheduled against fellow SEC newcomers Texas A&M – who spent last Saturday knocking off No. 1 Alabama – Saturday’s game against ‘Cuse looks like the best and only chance the Tigers get that coveted sixth win.

However, Syracuse spent its weekend in precisely the same manner as the Aggies, knocking off an undefeated team themselves in then-No. 9 Louisville.

Richardson, however, did not seem to care enough about the team he has led all season long to get to class.
While he has officially been suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules, a source close to the situation has reported that

Richardson missed class multiple times and failed to complete the punishment given to him for missing the class — can’t do that.

You can't fix stupid! Sadly, his stock in the upcoming draft won't take much of a hit. The NFL is interested in how many Rhodes Scholar candidates they have on their rosters.

But they should be interested in players who possess determination, show commitment, and accept criticism/punishment with a little grace. Character does play a role in the draft, though to a lesser extent than talent of course.
