Alabama was well represented in the latest 247Sports rankings, but no current commits were rated as five-star prospects.
Alabama had 11 players in 247Sports' Top 247 rankings, but all were rated as four-star recruits. Carver (Ga.) defensive end Mekhi Brown is Alabama's highest-rated commit at No. 34. Of note, Rivals.com released its updated rankings earlier in the week and Alabama had two five-star prospects (Minkah Fitzpatrick and Calvin Riddley).
After Brown, Alabama's top-rated commits were West Orange-Stark (Texas) defensive back Deionte Thompson (No. 38), St. Peter's Prep (NJ) defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick (No. 40) and Central-Tuscaloosa offensive lineman Lester Cotton (No. 48).
Alabama commits Gonzaga (D.C.) offensive lineman Richie Petitbon (No. 53), Brookhaven linebacker Leo Lewis (No. 67), Vigor running back Desherrius Flowers (No. 79) and Monarch (Fla.) wide receiver Calvin Ridley (No. 98) also made the Top 100.
Even without a five-star commit, Alabama has the consensus top recruiting class in the country thus far.
Shades Valley defensive tackle Daron Payne was the highest-rated in-state recruit at No. 28. The five-star prospect is primarily considering Alabama and Auburn, but could wait until National Signing Day to make a decision. He was the only uncommitted Alabama recruit to make the list.
247Sports ranked St. Bonaventure (Calif.) quarterback Ricky Town as the nation's top player. Town was at one point committed to Alabama, but de-committed and then quickly committed to USC.
