🏈 Newspaper reports Cutcliffe hiring at UT nearly a done deal

I've heard Cutcliffe wants to bring his entire staff from Duke with him to Knoxville, and is comfortable in Durham.

Apparently Tennessee's Scout.com site reports that it's down to Kyle Whittingham, Randy Edsall, Kevin Sumlin, and Derek Dooley.

This raises two questions:

(1) Will Duke students riot and burn their mattresses because it's so close to NSD?

(2) Since Cut was the one who nixed moving the Bama game to Charlotte or ATL rather than at Wallace Wade does that re-open that possibility of playing at a bigger venue?

If he's got any sense at all, he'll go get Randy Edsall from UConn. I also think Derek Dooley would do a good job for them. He's young and will bring alot of energy with him. I heard him speak at Bama's Coaching Clinic last year and I was very impressed with him.

I'm hearing this morning that Cutcliffe is staying at Duke, and is firmly committed to their program. Back to the drawing board, UT.

They should be sending around a collection plate to get Butch Davis over there. If they want to win. If not, oh well.

I personally think hiring Cutcliffe would be like what Ears has done at Tx Tech with hiring his OC. They run Fat phil out of town to get lame and then you are going to go after one of Phil's former top guys? Just like Ears hiring and firing Franklin because of the spread O and then you turn around and hire a kid that was the top guy for Franklin.

Bo: This is most definitely Karma. It sucks when it comes down on top of your head. They not only ran off the first decent coach they'd had in years (Fulmer), but now they are going to be forced to crawl back to him, if they want to get a coach and fast. It's just too hard of a job at Knoxville. They don't have a fertile in-state pipeline of recruits, the conference they compete in is so tough, and all the other coaches in the league are alpha males. It's like coaching against Tom Landry, Vince Lombardy, and Bill Walsh all in one division, at once. It's a murderer's row. UT might be more ill-prepared than anyone in the league for competition. At Vandy, the expectations are low. At UK, basketball is the king sport. At Miss State, there's an understanding by fans of where they "fit" in the conference. But UT has had some success, even recently, and now they can't get it back on track.

UT is going to suffer for a while. I'd think this year's class is slipping away by the day. Last year's class is currently pleading guilty.

It's like self-imposed scholly limitations!
