šŸˆ My one concern with Coker...

I have watched JC in mop up duty while at FSU and now several clips during fall practice. He's got great form and arm strength but he does tend to sail the ball. Has anyone else noticed this or am I being too nit-picky?

Just to confuse the situation...ever noticed how long it takes Blake to release the ball? It's almost like a MLB pitcher over-acting.

Just as a random side-note. It's interesting to me that the staff is giving all the reps to one guy, one day, then the other the next day. They didn't do that when McCarron and Sims were competing for the starting job.

All the QBs if a person watched has something with their throwing that's odd or concerning or whatever you want say.

I do think from a throwing motion standpoint that Coker and Bateman have the best motion in my opinion anyway.

@TerryP Do you think the staff doing that one guy one day and one guy the next might have something to do with Coker getting their late and this is the best way they thought for him to get up to speed quickly? Whatever the reason it's weird.

Seems to me that the plus side of having a "one day starter" is to assess leadership, and in doing so it seems the competition is being pinned on that singular but crucial aspect of the game. If that is the case, I would imagine Sims has a leg up due to his time to build relationships. On the flip side, it's pretty difficult for the RB's and the WR's to impact any given play negatively if they themselves want to impress - if that makes sense. In other words, "Sorry I dropped that one pass, coach" from quarterback X and then catch the next pass from player Y.

Just thinking on the reasoning. It's certainly interesting.

I'd love to see Bateman more in the mix. Perhaps, that would help him get more consistent.
Maybe this one-QB-per-day approach is the way Kiffin does things.
In any event, hopefully, the starter will be ready for the season and keep the nerves in check.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

It's not weird now that I know a little more about the situation.

What we're looking at is basically two different offensive schemes. Not to the degree of a change in offense, but different blocking schemes with each QB.

They feel that Blake is better suited for an offense with a moving pocket. Coker, on the other hand, is one that excels in the same style of protection we've been playing. For lack of a better way to put this, we're looking at two different blocking schemes.

If we're going to use two quarterbacks in the first game I don't see a great way to do it. Play both, but make Blake stay within the pocket (while that doesn't suit his best attributes as a runner?) Play Blake, then switch to Jake, but play one style with a moving pocket then switch to a more traditional set?

That may be the explanation for the OL issues that CNS referred to. The big grunts do better when they just react rather than think about which kind of pocket they are establishing. Aside from Blake's obvios open field abilities, his height lends itself more to a moving pocket. In a stationary pocket big DL with long arms would be more of a problem for him than for Coker.

I had a conversation today that was centered on that very notion. Not only are we talking two different approaches, we're likely talking about two different personnel groupings as well...all the while trying to determine which of two quarterbacks are going to be "the guy."

I'm sure there are frustrations built in to doing such a thing...and these types of frustration certainly fall into the clutter category...
