🌎 Mexican Senate approves entry of United States Special Forces to help eradicate cartels.

Send in Academi (Black water, XE services etc) and Black ops.. Then let them split the loot with the Government.. Kill them all, take no prisoners.. otherwise as big as the cartels are in Mexico, you will need the Marine Corps..

Precision munition strikes should be next.
I'd hope option one is taking a page out of Obama's playbook, so to speak, and it starts with drones.

I've seen a few headlines and blurbs referring to the CIA taking a major role against the groups they helped create in some cases? I won't call that reassuring. It's easy to entertain the idea "which cartel will they support?"

Unfortunately, the CIA built the cartels.. They will most likely have to use the DIA to take them down..A lot of Zetas were actually trained by Delta and Seals when they were in the Mexican Special Forces… The Zetas were mainly composed of the defectors… The cartels bought the rest…

Drones are viable options as well. Give the special forces options for whatever they need so they're mainly recon and not in close combat with the cartel. They're have been a lot of recon flights so hopefully they're getting data for precision strikes and not invasions. I'm sure the cartels are well supplied with arms and people.
Yes, past experience would suggest it won't be done correctly but here's to hoping things have changed under Trump. Permission for military involvement could be a good sign or it could be the same old CIA BS.

Boots on the ground, against what they've entrenched since the '80's and the beginning of "The War on Drugs," seems like a really bad idea.

(As if boots on the ground is a good idea in any circumstances. Is that asking too much? Is it unavoidable?)

I don't think it's unavoidable to a degree. Need recon to verify targets but once verified just hang back until time to send the damage report. Getting them designated as terrorist organizations should open the door to causing some destruction.
