🏈 Matt Wyatt with a little film study from last week

nicely done!

on the interception play, it looks like Smith (or could be Allen, i can't really read the name on the jersey) stepped towards the sideline to cut his guy off and force him to the inside. and i think that's what made the difference on that play and allowed our safety to get over to him and make the pick.

also, it looks like the qb threw to the receiver and not to the play. on long pass plays, you have to throw the ball to make sure one of 2 things happen; either your guy catches the ball, or no one catches it. that's why you throw to the outside/sideline on an out route going long downfield unless you KNOW your guy is gonna be open down the middle of the field. then, you throw it out in front of him (i.e., the very next play he goes over when Tua threw it down the middle of the field to Waddle).

but going back to the pick play....forcing a receiver to go where they don't want to go is the sign of a good db/safety. that way, they have to play YOUR game instead of theirs. it's just one of those things that Coach Saban is so damn good at.....control of the game on both sides of the ball.
