🏈 Marvin Lewis of Bengals comment about Andre and Bama

I read this on another Bama site and thought this was pretty interesting.

4. Lewis is not happy with Andre Smith, the second-year tackle from Alabama. He doesn't think Alabama shot him straight with its pre-draft info (the kid's work ethic leaves a lot to be desired) and Smith was not diligent enough in the offseason rehabbing a foot injury. The Bengals expect him to be ready for the start of the season, but I wouldn't be surprised if: 1. The Bengals start him on the PUP list because he won't be in good shape; or 2. He doesn't start the season as a starter.

So Bama didn't shot him straight...I don't even understand the point of this part of the story. Seriously, they knew about his pre-sugar bowl drama, then his nfl combine drama, his agent drama, etc... and Bama didn't shot him straight. Guess Bengal's brass doesn't have any skin in the game for making him the #6 pick of the 2009 draft and giving him $21m in guarantees.

CNS worked the kid into all-world status. Now the kid can't start under Lewis...and the issue is Bama fibbing, and the kid being lazy?!? What part of the responsibility falls at that feet of the guy who has been his boss for the last year and a half?
:lance: Loser.

Did you guys see Andre at the combine? Yikes!
Are you talking about the Combine from over a year ago? The one AFTER WHICH the Bengal chose Andre?

This organization is amazing. After Chris Henry gets killed, they add Pacman Jones and T.O., and suddenly what Alabama did 18 months ago is the issue?!?

Is it always the case that they pay millions of dollars to guys so that they can be suprised when the players answer the "WHAT I DID LAST SUMMER" topic with "I GOT PAID".

The organization paid all the money to Andre and because Andre's true colors show again it's Bama's fault? Doesn't that idiot Marvin realize that Andre was lazy all the way through his time at Bama, the combine, and his pro day? wasn't anybody with the Bengals watching tv or at the pro day?

Seriously, everyone knew Andre was quite lazy and he got problems to stay in good shape at The Capstone. Do you remember that film (Under the Lights) where even Nick Saban told him if he was aware of all his kind of talent and potential for next level? But the fact is that Alabama has not much to say here, the kid played hard over his college career and he was pushed hard, maybe Cincinnati organization doesn't exactly know how to motivate one lazy body. Sincerely, I've never liked that organization for big Andre.

RTR,

As lazy as he is, he's lucky to have been the top OL coming out of HS.

Being that lazy its a wonder he didn't blow starting as a Freshman.

How a bum like him made All-American twice is beyond me.

Lazy has hindered him and everyteam he has haunted. I guess Marvin Lewis can chalk it up to just bad luck, cause it couldn't be coaching.

Yes, recent history shows us that Lewis and the Bengals have been excellent judges of character. They pick people first, football players second. Based on that evidence, I know I will certainly take Marvin's side. No way in hell would those guys miss on a character evaluation.

i sense a bit of sarcasm there... lol

It's a dysfunctional franchise that hasn't been worth a chit in the league since Sam Wyche left the club. Remember, this is the same organization that once had DAVE SHULA as it's head coach, not for one year, not for two years...but for 4 seasons. 19-53 record, according to his wiki >>>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Shula

So, I say all of that to make my point that Cincy is now where good players go to die. That title used to be held by Tampa, and Oakland is giving them a run for their money.

See, this is why it is so damn hard being an NFL team fan (Carolina for me). Players are playing for money, and little else. Coaches put the blame on everyone else, the owners are disconnected from the performance on the field, unless the title trophy is in hand. It's all big business, and it's cut-throat as hell. It no longer is a sport. However, ask anyone who has been a tried-and-true Saints fan how they feel about the NFL these days......I'm sure they are loving the sport and the league.

I never understood thinking like this. is it really about playing the sport. high school kids wanna play in the nfl, that is their dream and most want it for the money. you think college is different or even high school sports these days...be honest.

i don't go to work every day just to go to work, I go to get paid so I don't fault them at all. Rookies get paid way to much and the vets don't get paid enough in some cases. Besides most of these athletes will be broke when their pro sports days are over anyways, and most will be riddled with medical bills that they will hope the NFL retirement/medical coverage will cover.

I see your disagreement. I and everyone else knows that pro players play to get paid just like you and I are coming to work to get paid. Difference is, they are playing a GAME, and I guess i just relate that to fun/entertainment/love of the game. It's hard to find that love for the game in the on and off field conduct of a lot of the league. It shows in their work. Love of the game is big, to a lot of sports fans. If a guy is super talented, getting paid buckets of money to be in the game, shouldn't it at least LOOK like he wants to be there?

But I get your disagreement.
