šŸ’¬ Marijuana and athletes: Former LSU track star DQ'd from Olympics. Percy Harvin: I was high every game.

Do 3 inch fingernails help sprinters? Has been a theme for years, so it must add speed.

they continue to say her biological mom died a week before the trials. And she found out from a reporter. And she admitted that drove her to the weed use. Did she even know her biological mom? Was she even in contact with her? Why do they say ā€œbiologicalā€ every time they say she lost her mom? It’s just strange.

I give her credit, she fessed up when they questioned her about it on the news this morning. She said she did it. Said it was to cope with losing her biological mom, but admitted to using.

I happened to see it on TV the night she qualified (won in the finals). She ran up into the stands and celebrated with her family (which was fine), but when NBC interviewed her she seemed far from mentally stable and closer to legitimately crazy.

Interesting to see how you came to conclusion that she was far from mentally stable?

You ever had a conversation with someone or seen someone speak for a few minutes and come away thinking they were 2 tacos shy of a combination plate? That's the impression I got. Could well be wrong (often am), but that was my impression.

The girl is flat out fast. If you watch her run in the finals of the trials she won going away. And you see her face it looks like she’s not even stressing. The weed didn’t help her speed. She’s one fast young lady no doubt about it. I for one hope she’s able to run in the games. She’ll bring home a gold if not 2 for the home team. Weed is legal in Oregon where she injected it in whatever manner. Banned by USA track and field though, and she knew that. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe weed does give you an advantage?

It's not like she didn't know pot was a no-no. IMO, it's like the guy who smokes pot before his employment drug test.

Personal note: I'm for the legalization of drugs and in a nutshell it's because there are areas I don't believe the government should be involved with; personal recreation being the one here along with my pocketbook, my house/bedroom...hell, my life in general.

On the subject of this thread: I find Percy's story interesting and the recent news about Mark Richt worth noting.

I have a friend who is in stage four of Parkinson's as I've mentioned in the past. I see the difference, immediately, in his symptoms after smoking marijuana.

I'd much rather have a family member or a friend smoke to relieve symptoms that see them taking opioids, anti-depressants, and the like.

Hypothetical (but based on something that really happened. ) A player has a hard time going to sleep. He had choices that were pharmaceutical all the way up to Ambien. However, smoking a bowl (roughly .25 of a gram) of Indica strains was enough to put him to sleep and allow him to get the rest he needed.

Pharmaceutical or natural? I'd rather see the players take the latter and would support getting THC off the banned substance list.

I have to give you 1.2 point for that. My wife and I were talking about that this afternoon and we felt like That's not the product of smoking weed, but because of her environment she was raised in, where it's okay to talk like that. Lot of people who lives in low income housing are like that.

Ummmmmmm
Pandora's box!

personal feelings where i have seen it so destructive. But thats me!!!! And my past experiences of those using...scary
I have NEVER and will
never

I understand the medical.
Heres my problem. How can it be legal in several states. ,....open selling...and not be legal in other applications

I remember when Alabama had dry and wet counties. If you crossed into a dry county with beer you were subject to arrest.
How is that right
In sports
If all intoxicatates are tested for then fine
But only MJ... not alcohol..not tobacco?

strange world

A very quick google search just now shows that she has spoken pretty openly about some mental health issues, so I think it's fair to say my dart at least hit the board. But, it isn't how she said it, as much as what she said (from what I remember anyway on the broadcast). Do want to be clear on this, I hate that she's been suspended. I don't have any reason to think she's a bad person, and if she does compete in Japan, I hope she wins gold. The only Americans I don't wish complete success are those that act ashamed of this country, and I don't think she falls into that (small) group. From what little I've seen, she's also handled the suspension really well, and I'll tip my hat to her on that.

She’s admitted her mistake and apologized to everyone. That’s a plus for her not blaming anyone but herself. Do I think she should be given a do over? No. There are rules, laws and guidelines for a reason. She may still be able to participate in the sprint relays as those will take place after the 30 day ban.

The problem is it doesn’t stay in someone’s house. Society in Colorado has been ravaged from the legalization of marijuana - coupled with liberal allowances for vagrancy, I’ll admit. The best thing for Colorado, and the worst thing for our nation, is to continue the legalization parade.

Yep, it's one thing if responsibility came with it, but we all know that is beyond laughable to expect out of pretty much anyone, muchless a drug user. Legalization reaches the innocent and will bury many bright futures. I personally don't want to serve up my kids to those potential consequences.

In my view this is more of a "who" than a "why." It's not far off from "is it the gun" or "is it the shooter."

@TerryP , your point is not lost with me. Who is a responsible person and who is not? I wish more attention and consternation were
applied toward alcohol ( a known poison) use and abuse, which has ruined and or taken more lives than can be calculated. I admit,
misuse of the natural weed can be harmful, but it is not poisonous. Most anything in the hands of a wrong person can be dangerous.
