šŸˆ Kirby - ā€œThey didn’t beat us - we bustedā€

So all 41 points were busts including that over the top pass where Jameson ran past two of their defenders? Ok sounds good to me.

This is the context as well as his comments on bringing pressure in the first game:

" -- Asked about getting pressure on Bryce Young, Smart said it is ā€œreally importantā€ and Young did a good job of moving around in the pocket the first game. ā€œHe’s really way more elusive than people give him credit for,ā€ Smart said, adding Young has ā€œelite spatial awarenessā€ and the lack of pressure was not for a ā€œlack of tryingā€ because Georgia brought pressures. ā€œSomebody’s got to win one-on-one,ā€ he said of his defensive front. ā€œWe had some really critical third-down losses that -- hey, they didn’t beat us, we busted. You can’t do that and beat a good football team. You give them extra snaps whenever that happens.ā€ Smart also referenced Georgia’s coverage busts after the Dec. 4 SEC championship game. "

If you read the full comment it's being taken out of context. He was specifically talking about some third-and-long plays where they had busts.
He also stated ā€œ they didn’t beat usā€ - not out of context at all.
Kinda like lighting the players up who were about to give him a Gatorade bath - paying attention to what’s behind him instead of what’s going on on the field.

Do you know what "context" means? Because you're literally taking what he said out of context to make it mean something else. He is SPECIFICALLY talking about those third down situations. The full quote is in this very thread.

Optics. It's a rich side story.

Kirby's seen a Gatorade bath stopped on the sidelines in a semi-final; it happened when he was at Bama. The difference is the one he watched came from a player stopping his teammates.

What's been left out of that story is no more than a minute after his post game TV interview he's in the end zone taking selfies with friends, boosters, families, and the like, celebrating their win. Mixed messages, ya know?

The argument about what he did or didn't say and context leaves out some things. Our receivers have been told they weren't open on those downs except with UGA making mistakes. Bryce has been told his completions on those downs were only because UGA made mistakes. The OLine was told their blocking for the amount of time needed was due to UGA mistakes. That is right in his context. Do you think that might motivate the offense to show it was them who did it to UGA and not UGA who allowed it?

Yeah this still plays into not giving Bama credit for the win. With that said Saban is saying the same thing when he talks about "we did not execute". Regardless of context if Saban can turn it into material more power to him if it helps the team win. This team seems to need the disrespect angle so give it to them even if out of context.

I agree with you on the specific quote. I still think he’s taking credit away from Bama & making excuses for Ga. In the big picture.
On a different subject: I assume you are picking UGA again? ( it worked last time!)

Doesn’t logic dictate that if the offense of team A is successful in it’s play calling then team B had busts on those successful plays by team A? Regardless that still falls in the wheelhouse of ā€œbeating them.ā€

To me busts are where the other team missed an assignment or read. For instance the TD to Jameson where he did a hesitation then just outran two defenders is not a bust. Another non bust would be for the defender to be in the position to make a play but the QB just placed the ball where only his guy could catch it and they do so. These are instances you just tip your hat that the other guy was just better than you on that play. Same with winning the one on one battles at the line of scrimmage those are not a busts.
