......I have no problem with the call for the field goal. In theory it was a low risk/high reward call. From what i could see Coach was prepared for a possible return (ex. AJ not holding the)....... the flaw in what happened is exactly what should happen to kids.....they were caught up in the moment and didnt do their job. It happens. There are a ton of possibilites of what could have happened in that game.

Take a knee go to overtime...... our D finally finds a way to stop them from running.
Take a knee go to overtime...... we win a shoot out in overtime/or lose it.

Try a hail mary....... falls incomplete and we go to overtime
Try a hail mary....... AJ gets sacked/injured and we go to overtime without him

Kick a 57 yd field goal with a kicker that the coach has seen make........miss...make a tackle go to overtime
Kick a 57 yd field goal with a kicker that the coach has seen make........ makes it game over and it was a great call.

Yes there was the chance he could return it.......but who REALLY saw that coming

It's like in baseball.......... When you hit one deep do you watch the ball or do you just run. When i was playing baseball i was told to just run.

Our guys got caught watching the kick instead of getting ready for a possible return.....as a matter of fact EVERYONE was watching...including Auburn.....just so happened they had faster players on the field at the time and they reacted once they saw the return. By then the wall was pretty much set....all Auburn had to do was turn and find a guy.
(*correction* we did have one start downfield)
I loved the call to be honest......we hadn't been very successful in stoping their attack for much of the night. So overtime was a toss up.

I agree Chase. One possibility that I thought about was a Hail Mary and get a PI and move it 15yds closer for a FG attempt. The game wasn't lost on that final snap. CNS has said this over and over. There are 6-8 plays that will determine the outcome. Failing to convert on 3rd and 4th downs late in the fourth, blown assignment on the TD pass ( supposed to have been bracket coverage), a holding call, a false start, etc. I had no problem with the call. Running the ball to the left on 3rd and short and 4th and short, I questioned. Anthony Steen has been our most consistent blocker all season and we seemed to be getting more going to our right.
