| FTBL Illegal touching play

Starting fourth quarter. Bama and williams were called for "illegal touching" of a pass....and that williams was covered up...

Clearly shows williams was an eligible receiver ...is it clear...what did "line judge " see that we didnt?

If he wasnt ....wouldnt that have been called..."ineligible downfield " immediately?

Flag was thrown. Before Williams caught ball ( very close).

Strange or blatant mis call. Or correct?

How it affected game. Who knows....probably none...

Why was flag so late

I think we should let North Korea handle the punishment for that official.
However, I was screaming at the stupid play call (yeah it worked because of an incredibly talented freshman) but you need 3 yards to keep the drive going & you run a play that should have had roughly 5% chance of succeeding - this pisses me off.

Kinda pissy too. Still shaking my head about whole game. Bama staff just didn't know who they were dealing with inVenerables.

Be interesting to see game plan for AU.

That was our thoughts as well. Need three yards and it turns into a deep throw to a covered receiver in the end zone.

Then of course you look at the 4th down throw to Dippre and he was at five yards, not seven. I still can't understand running short routes and how coaches and players allow this to happen. It simply escapes me.

And. Early in game. 3rd n 4. Milroe keeps right. Has first but turns and goes backwards to avoid hit. Instead of first. Its fourth. Happened couple times.

And his int. He chose not to tackle db who had intercepted ball. Slide at him. Choose not to take hit. Be physical!!!

If QB wont be physical. How does he expect his team to be!!!!!

I am very conservative to when it comes to firing coaches. However, I've seen enough of stuff such as this. I will be very disappointed if Sheridan is not replaced at the end of the year (I also have severe doubts about Wommack). I might be wrong and will gladly say so if it's the case, but what I'm seeing is not "fundamental" football in the plays called or the execution on the field.

I agree fully on all of these points & was yelling about all of them when they occurred. I said at the time that someone on the sideline should have kicked his ass! If this is reviewed at film time & Milroe's ass isn't called out and crawled then I would have severe reservations about this coaching staff & the program in general.

Wonder how much ass chewing happens in this transfer/nil time?

Blown call on the illegal touching! Willams wasn’t covered up BUT was covering up the TE who stayed in for pass protection. Likely doesn’t make a difference in outcome BUT it damn sure killed any momentum!
Ok. Even if. Wouldn't shouldn't they have call " illegal man down fiield". Rather than " illegal touching ". I dont know Williams touched ball before flag came out. Was close
And thrown flag sooner?

Agree. Doubt if outcome is affected. But.

True! The call of “illegal touching” occurs when a receiver goes out of bounds on his own and comes back inbounds and is the first to touch it or say Milroe throws it and a lineman catches it, no deflection. Ineligible man/receiver downfield” occurs if the TE, whom Williams covered, had gone downfield or like an earlier penalty on Pritchett. Officiating has gotten worse and has been for a while now. The degree of ineptness amazes me!!

Pretty much what we all thought. Including broadcasters

What was hard to figure was line judge right in line with it. Saw it completely

And yet!!!!!

Maybe he was tired or confused. Certainly happened to some of players

Officiating is going to continue to be a problem until more money is allocated for the pool, which basically means making them FT officials while also rewarding the good ones and penalizing the bad ones both monetarily and with a ranking system (much like teams have where the best crews works the most important and high profile games). I have thoughts on this I'll post another day, but I wish they'd do away with SEC only crews and have a Power 4 officiating pool with which to work from. They also really need to make strides in growing and enticing more younger people to become HS officials, to alleviate the shortage and start a better "trickle up" the ranks type system.

If the linesman believed it true, he should've dropped the flag as soon as the pass left Milroe's hands, for ineligible man downfield, forget illegal touching. It was a major goof, and it's a shame an error like that has the implications it does.

The hard part, for this officiating crew, was the inconsistent treatment. I threw a water bottle, a Sweetwater IPA can, and the remote, and they didn't review the play.

My first thought as it unfolded, even without realizing at the time it was the same crew that did the UGA vs. Texas game this season... If it had been in Bryant-Denny, could fans have thrown trash on the field to give them time and an excuse to talk it over and overturn it?
