I'm in the midst of doing a little research on the "proposed editing" of the recruiting rule books for NCAA coaches. If I told you there were over 650 major infraction cases since 1953 it probably wouldn't shock you.

But, I'm curious. What would you guess the number of secondary violations are in the last five years?

This is for D1 teams ONLY.

I'll assume you are counting all D1 sports, so the number is gonna be really high. I'd expect most athletic departments submit 100-200 per year covering all sports. The reason I say 100-200, our football program alone from 09-10 submitted 44, so 22 @ year + the other sports = 100-200 per year. I also remember reading that Ohio State submitted just under 300 which I believe was said to be higher than most.

I'd guess the NCAA gets between 4000-6000 violations per year.

ok, football alone, ~119 schools, 20 violations per year avg (which I'll admit is probably low) * 5 years = 11,900. if the avg goes up to 30 per school, the number is 17,850.

30 doesn't seem that high on secondary violations based on some of the chicken scratch ones I've read/heard about.

Yeah, he stole my answer.

The answer?

Over 17,500 secondary violations in five years.

And you wonder why there needs to be some type of reform in sanctions for blatant secondary's?
