something i think is funny about that statement about Clemson had no idea about what they would see because of a new offense is, after AU's bowl game with Clemson they heralded their offense as a world beater and they would win a MNC because of it. i asked a few of them "have you guys stopped to think that Clemson had NO IDEA what you guys would do, no idea about any personnel groupings, no way to scout what you guys would do, and had to stay in a base defense the whole game because of it?"
the resounding answer was NO. there was no way that was possible. Tony Franklin is their messiah and them beating Clemson was a testament to that. just look, that offense is SO GOOD, that AU was able to beat Clemson after only 8 days of learning the offense. just think how good it will be during the 08 season with all off-season to learn it.
there were so many reasons AU fans came up with as to why Clemson would just take us to the shed and flat out beat us down like red headed step children. now all of a sudden, those reasons disappear and now its just "well, Clemson is just a terrible team and has no talent." they just let us win. lets ignore the fact that their coach said he has not seen a team be more physical against his in the last 3 years. lets ignore the fact that the Clemson players have said Alabama was just incredibly physical. no, Alabama didn't win the game.....Clemson just lost it.
we will hear the same story the next few weeks after winning some games. even if we took UGA to 3 overtimes and they won by 1 point on a 60 yard field goal, AU fans would rave about how HORRIBLE and sorry our team is, and that they told us so after the Clemson game.
they are grasping straws. you won't see but a few admit it, but they are concerned about us. they spin like crazy because it makes them feel better about the situation. it makes them feel warm and fuzzy. i think this season we will see a role reversal in the state. i don't see AU being a dominant team in the SEC this season. thats going beyond the crimson glasses, that is a very real concept. the chemistry is not right on the team. there is dissent among the ranks. alot of the skill players are not really sold on this spread offense, and are not happy with how the QB situation is going. AU fans will be furious about their 8 win season and that the streak will be broken this season. they will give CTF another season to get things together, but he will not last long on the plains. his gimmicky offense will not work with the big boys in the SEC. it didn't even work against ULM.
get ready for an interesting season.
