🏈 HUNH proponent Art Briles of Baylor among big names presenting at Alabama coaching clinic

The lineup for Alabama's annual spring coaching clinic typically draws big names. That won't change this year as a few retired legends join active coaches including Baylor's Art Briles. Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings and ex-Redskins coach Joe Gibbs top the flier for the event that was posted online. Former Alabama player and assistant Sylvester Croom is also on the bill.

The clinic for coaches is April 10-12 in Tuscaloosa.

Briles, who led Baylor to the Big 12 title last year, uses the fast-paced offense that's become popular in recent years. He opposed the proposed rule change intended to slow down the hurry-up, no-huddle schemes.

"If the food tastes good, don't change the recipe," Briles told USA Today.

Nick Saban
said more research was necessary to study the impact this offense has on player safety. Saban and Briles met just once on the field as Alabama beat Houston 30-24 in 2007.

Other coaches who'll attend include Seattle Seahawks special teams coach Brian Schneider, and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees. Croom, the running backs coach with the Tennessee Titans, is the other NFL participant.

The event
, geared for high school coaches, will also include a "chalk talk" with Alabama coaches, a look inside practices and the April 12 scrimmage in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

More than 1,600 coaches attended last year's clinic headlined by New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton.

A couple of years ago I spent a few weeks comparing coaching clinics in the SEC. There were some significant differences among them were who were guest speakers.

Far be it from me to make this a habit, but one thing I noticed that impressed me about Chizik is he had three of five coaches teaching on the 3-4 defense.

Now, we see one of the featured speakers this year is Briles. It goes to prove, you're never too old to learn...and I firmly expect our defensive staff will be spending a lot of time with Briles...as well as our offensive staff.

This question. Dumbass or smart ass?

Neither. I ask because Terry has tried repeatedly to defend Saban's defensive system against any claims by me and others in the media that modifications are necessary in the face of the HUNH's popularity. Moreover, Terry has blamed our offense exclusively in our losses against HUNH teams in the Saban era. So ... I'm earnestly curious why Terry now expects our defensive staff to spend a lot of time with Briles.

Common sense, musso.

Briles has success with his offensive scheme. If a defensive staff can learn more about that scheme, they can get their players in position to defend it better with that knowledge.

Once again, you're putting words in my mouth.

"Moreover, Terry has blamed our offense exclusively in our losses against HUNH teams in the Saban era."

No sir.
