🏈 How does the loss of Bo Davis affect Bama?

What would people be talking about this year if we didn't have a QB battle? It's taken the focus off a few battles that are probably equally as important, not to mention the new position coaches.

Losing Bo Davis certainly is not giving me the warm and fuzzies thats for sure. I can't say I've heard much buzz around Dunbar. Doesn't help that recruiting on the DL this year seems to be struggling.

Any chance Bo Davis can be rehired after sitting out a season/learning his lesson ? I doubt it, eh ?

It's far too early to make that judgment yet, in my opinion. However, the loss of Bo has has taken its toll. While no one can say for sure, I strongly suspect we wouldn't have seen a few transfer if Bo was on the staff.

Bottom line:

Coaching? I don't see this as a step down, or a step up, with Dunbar. It's consistent.
Recruiting? That's left to be determined ... but there's no one that can convince me Bo wasn't a hell of a recruiter.

My biggest issue is with the chemistry on the DL ... Bo held that group together; tightly.

@TerryP what do you think about bringing Bo back ? If its ok for a competitor to hire him next season then why not Bama let him come home. I dont see a difference.

Dunbar feels like a short term deal. Has anyone heard anything about Dunbar from camp ? I know I haven't.

Has he been hired by anyone? I seem to recall reading something about him in the last month or so but I can't recall whether it was speculation he was about to be hired or he actually was hired.

Personally, I'd have a hard time hiring him if I were in Saban's shoes. I don't like the message it would send.

I've heard Dunbar has been doing well on the recruiting trail and I have little doubt he's a good coach. Does he have the same relationship with the lineman as Davis? That would be impossible.

I wonder if we'll see some fans yelling about Dunbar if the depth the defense is missing rares its ugly head and we see a team run through the D.

Bo Davis has a show cause till April 3, 2019 and Saban really wants to bring him back. Dunbar wanted to leave this year and go back to the NFL.

Dunbar leaves after this season, then I believe Saban will bring Bo back. He called Bo about hiring Golding.

The April 3 date is key. That means no Spring ball, no recruiting. As much as Saban may want him, the timing is a negative.

Considering this year was supposed to be a big setback for our DL, I was extremely impressed with what Dunbar did. Every single one of those guys showed improvement (except maybe Hand?)... Had L. Ray been healthy he was morphing into a factor also.

Payne, Buggs, R. Davis and Q. Williams all got a lot better.

Dunbar has been the real deal and first class in developing defensive linemen. I just don't see Dunbar as any hindrance to bringing in DL talent. Whatever has ailed this recruiting class has been a combination of a lot of things. Maybe we miscalculated the early signing period. We lost some connections with all the assistant coaches leaving and after last season's recruiting cycle, Alabama was never deeper in talent and depth. I don't think we need Bo Davis to come save us.
