Special Teams Continue Special Season
By Terry Pellman

Commitment.

Perserverance.

Work.

Those three words won’t have their place in the locker room when the Tide returns to the practice fields entering their last off week of the regular season. The reminder of just what they have meant is reflected in the 11-0 record this Alabama team has as they look to end the last of three streaks that were prevalent on their minds back in the 4th quarter program in January of this year. Yet, the posters with pictures reflecting 2007’s losses to Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State won’t adorn the walls.

The first game of this streak ended last week with a victory in Baton Rouge. Part two was concluded last night as the Tide handled a tough Mississippi State team, 32-7, to put an end to two consecutive losses suffered at the hands of the Bulldogs in 2006 and 2007.

Next up, the Auburn Tigers, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves even though that game was mentioned in last nights press conference and undoubtedly was on the mind of most Alabama fans as the clock ran down to 0:00 in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Outstanding work as usual Terry. Thanks for the stats on the MSU pass defense. That was something I was unaware of and something that makes me feel better.

Couple those stats with a few BADLY dropped passes by Tide receivers and one could extrapolate the fact that our passing game is actually showing real improvement.

Thanks for the write up.

Our pass game will have to greatly improve before the F.U. game. I really don't see us moving the ball on the ground against the Gayturds

Congrats to special teams!!!

Blocked punt for safety, punt return that scored a TD and set up a TD, and excellent punting really set the tone in this game. Rashad couldn't be stopped as a gunner on punt returns which resulted to downing the ball inside the 5 and two crucial open field tackles on a very good punt returner.

Fitzgerald is quietly having a wonderful season and Javy was back to being Javy.

Lee Tiffin was also perfect on the night and had some very good kickoffs.

Overall, great special teams play last night.

Great post. Definitely the key to this game. Controlling the field position, as well as dictating the momentum shift was HUGE!

Glad you posted this, Argo.

Special teams seem to keep improving. And they will need to continue to do so against the likes of Florida and its special teams' play.
