read this today and thought it was pretty funny.

Greg was proposing a new TV network (seeing as how Texas just got one) and Tommy replied promptly

that funny, strange though if your own network hates you :D

how does ESPN hate us? by showing our games on their network nationwide more than most schools? by running commercials showing how big Bama is to our fan base? or because u think certain commentators/analysts "dont like" Alabama which is not true.

I totally disagree, Plano and Birdman. I find that ESPN downplays the strength of Bama every year. And I don't think anyone feels that Herbstreit likes us... 1. I mean, sure they may show Bama games, but firms try to maximize profits more than support teams, so showing Bama games doesn't tell us that they like Bama. 2. The commercials... I just don't think that says they "like Alabama" again, they do stuff that will keep viewers happy and attract the most viewers possible to, again, increase revenue. 3. Talking about Bama... are you serious?? You think that shows a liking of Alabama?? They talk about us b/c we are the talk of the nation-- and usually the talk ends with, "I say Alabama will lose 3 or 4 games this year" or "Alabama's secondary just isn't enough to contain Mallet and the his receivers, Arkansas will win this game" or "Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina; personally I think Bama will lose at least 2 of those games" (Point being, the talk is always negative towards Alabama...)

Okay, fine, they don't "like" us but they're a freaking sports channel they're not supposed to "like" anyone. The talk is most definitely NOT always towards Alabama. It was more negative in terms of them not thinking we would run the table because of how tough our schedule was this year along with a young team but hell most on ESPN were saying before the LSU game they still thought we had a great shot to go to the NC. Your talk about Herbstreet is completely baseless too. That dude knows what he's talkin bout and he says it like it is. Most Bama fans got mad when he picked Auburn to win the SEC in the pre-season (i thought he was crazy) but look how that turned out...

Hm, interesting opinions. And yes, I would agree that b/c they are a sports channel they should not "like" anyone or "dislike" anyone else, but hey, CNN is a news channel-- they shouldn't favor one side of the aisle, and Fox is a news channel also so they probably shouldn't favor a side either... but they do. And I totally agree that, especially after the Auburn prediction, it is readily apparent that Herbstreit knows his stuff, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have biases. And I still do think much talk, from every analyst that voices an opinion (that is, to exclude Rece Davis in light of the fact that he went to Bama and must be unbiased as possible) other than Mark May, who I seriously think is an Alabama fan, is not necessarily positive towards Alabama... I mean, I think they respect Alabama, and they know where we're coming from, but ESPN favors teams with big name emotional leaders; they loved Tebow, they loved Cam, they love Terrell Pryor, but they have never shown the same respect, IMO, towards Alabama b/c we don't win games like that.

I think to believe ESPN "hates" Bama is baseless. Last year everybody at ESPN was saying how good we were, how strong, etc. ESPN likes great football players and coaches, hence all the coverage Ingram got last year and continued to get this year. Herbie picking Auburn was simple and he stated several times why he chose them to win the SEC and the NC, most of their tough games were at home, and when talking about Bama Herbie along with several other people were right in their thinking Bama would lose 2-3 games because every SEC game we played the team we played had a week off. It's not a matter of ESPN "hating" us it's a matter of simple logic on football. It's hard enough to win in the SEC, but when your opponent has a weak off prior to playing you it makes it really hard to win then you add the fact that we were very young that leads to simple football logic.

ESPN might not be great all the time, but they don't "hate" one team more than another nor do they "like" one team more than the other. Sure the people working there might favor a team more than others i.e Ohio St, UF, etc, but that's because they are either alumni, fans, or both.
