šŸˆ FSU gets two more weeks to respond

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The NCAA's Committee on Infractions responded Tuesday to Florida State's appeal of sanctions from an academic cheating scandal, but kept its answer secret and gave the school 15 days to respond.
Florida State is challenging a portion of the sanctions announced in March that would force the school to vacate as many as 14 of Bowden's 382 career wins -- just one fewer than Penn State's Joe Paterno.

The university's general counsel, Betty Steffens, will prepare a rebuttal that will be made public, at least in part, university officials said.

So is this whats holding Bama up from hearing from the NCAA. I know they said they wanted to announce the results the same week.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

FSU challenged the loss of W's for Bowden and that was all they challenged, right?

IF I recall that correctly, this pretty well means they were told no...

Yeah I think you are correct. I dont know why they are trying to keep it a secret now unless they are working some kind of deal to keep him a head of Joe Pa.

I don't know the procedures front to back...but, what I do recall is the only ones who have seen the response after their appeal are the attorneys and president.

I've heard FSU is going to release part of their rebuttal before this link...and, we'll likely get a feel for what they used to argue their point.

As to your original question about this being at the root of the holdup...you might be right. All that was left of ours after the meeting in Feb. was the lawyer writing it all up...and, these guys don't work full time for the NCAA.

I have heard that FSU is in fact trying to negotiate a deal where they incur additional forward going penalties in exchange for Bowden keeping the past victories.

Something mostly like FSU agreeing to one-to-two additional scholarship reductions and a reduction in the number of official visits allowed and a restriction in the time and number of coaches allowed on-the-road to recruit.

DAMN short sighted in my opinion. And selling your soul to a single person.

If the school sees the NCAA unwavering, then they will announce the findings earlier than later.

That seems crazy to me. I guess that record means a lot to them.

I agree, it appears loony toonish to me. But, Bowden has a hold over that entire school - hell, the University President was a former player under Bowden and will sell out his own mother to deflect any blame or damage to the old man's reputation.

I just do not understand this line of thinking. And I wonder exactly what Jimbo Fisher thinks of the decision - seeing as he will be the one most likely to live with the 'forward looking' penalties if the NCAA buys into the scheme.

That was my first thought when I read your earlier post.

I'd be upset.

I'm just glad we didn't hire Bowden

I think Bowden would have been a good hire at the time when we had the opportunity to hire him. He's been a helluva good coach at FSU. He single-handedly built that program. I just think he's hung on too long and let things get too far out of hand this last time around with the ncaa infractions. It's a very difficult decision for a successful coach to decide when is the best time to step down.
