In an effort to compete with ESPN, FOX Sports is pivoting away from live reporting, instead opting to implement separate online videos to go along with television shows and a targeted focus for viral web video content throughout its social media platforms.
It's hard to say what this does to your routine of you read articles on their CFB section. I don't make a habit of it other than following links from guys like Stewart Mandel.

This morning their content there is video based, the latest from June 8th. That's three weeks of content--poof!

Here's a link to Feldman and Mandel's The Audible.

Man, you wonder what he's thinking about leaving Sports Illustrated now. He was there a while and only at Fox for a short period of time. I stopped following him when he went to Fox as they were never on my "schedule" when browsing the web for college football material.

Have to wonder what short & long term effect this will have on sports journalism going forward.

Saw this tweet from Peter King yesterday, he summed it up as the business changed faster than folks were prepared for. Isn't that how it typically happens? Some are still sitting in chairs while others are left standing without chairs when the music stops.

When I lost interest in ESPN I shut it down for their rivals as well. Reading is fundamental and I would rather read my way around the net and not have to deal with personalities and buffoonery that aren't close to being my style.

I empathize with this thought from Larry Williams (Clemson's Tiger Insider site.)

I've noticed that CBS Sports now puts how long they expect it to take you to read one of their articles following the by-line now. Fox is going with this in-studio reports versus on site reports model--all on video (thank god for add-ons like disable auto-play.)

This is disturbing and true in it's truest sense:

I'd prefer a 1000 word, well-written piece over these 250 word blurbs we get so often--most poorly written from the start.

Most of the pieces we publish are between the 750-1000 word article and very photo intensive. That is because the reader is more apt to enjoy photos over text.. sad but true. It has been going this way for a while these guys were just the last to realize it because they were out of touch with their reader.

I also made the statement long ago that not matter whether you were liberal or conservative that your network news of choice was not in business to report news fair and balanced or whatever. That they were only in business to sell commercials. This is a fact and proves out with the project veritas piece about the liberal media's biased attack on all things Trump. It is true for Fox too though.. they aren't in business to report news.. that is only content.. they are in business to sell commercial space.

That being said I prefer to read my news rather than watch because I more easily decifer fact from opinion.

Second most used extension for me.

Most used extension for me. I certainly don't want to hear it.

I do appreciate the revenue generated from slide show reports. Very good seller when pitched correctly.

This is why I hate Twitter. People are simply finding ways to create newer and shorter words to express theirselves just to fit them in a Tweet instead of spelling out the word. This has created a Valley Girl image where people simply do not know how to speak anymore and come across as idiots when speaking with them. Just more of the dumbing down of the masses. Basically want to write a book in 250 characters.

I blame it on the YouTube generation. People, including many in my immediate family, have the attention span of a newborn.

I like twitter because of the limitation, I can quickly scroll through looking for what peaks my interest. Same goes for Reddit, I can browse for things that interest me and get more info by clicking a link or being involved in the comments.

Imagine scrolling through 1000 word essays...

A large number of us here have ragged on FoxSports--deservedly so, in my opinion--about the choices they have made and about their content.

It sure seems like the network doesn't get a lot of respect from its own peers as well.

Media is changing to the point where print media is almost dead as it is (and I say this as a sports writer for a newspaper) and even digital written format is struggling greatly. Social media and the pure laziness of people has almost completely killed it. People can blame the writers, the companies, etc. whatever you want, but how many people that share articles are actually reading those articles? We all see it literally every single day on our Twitter timelines or Facebook timelines, people share things based solely off the headline (and maybe if that link has a little blurb preview that is shown on the post) and people feel that is enough information for them to be informed. We are dumber (and definitely less informed) as a society for it and sports media is not immune. People are far more likely to click play on a 2-5 minute video than they are to sit down and spend five minutes reading an article. I dont see any of that changing anytime soon.

I'd be pissed if I had to fire everyone prior to my own firing.

At a previous job, one of the big dogs of one of the papers the company that owned our paper (BH Media/Brookshire Hathaway) was told he had to lay off something like 8 people (this after he had fired like 7 a cpl months before) and he had become so fed up with it he said "fuck it, I quit" with the thought that with the money they saved for his salary (which actually made up close to the number of people being fired) they either wouldnt fire any or at least not as many... they ended up firing MORE. They said he was freaking devastated when he found out.

Guess they are going to regurgitate other peoples stories for content now.
Their own stories is what I've observed.

It's a head-scratcher. FoxSports, and FS1, have HORRIBLE ratings due to their content. Sol, they are taking what is NOT working on TV and regurgitating it via the Internet and hoping...??? Bad content, served twice, is better the second time around?

It really makes no sense. "We're putting out bad products on air so let's do more?" No wonder the guy got fired.

Im actually surprised you say their ratings are so bad, considering how much UFC content they have. I would have thought that their shows would be so highly rated that it skews the numbers some even if everything else is a fail.

The last time I looked you could find Fox Sports rating comparable to ESPN's on Saturday nights when they were both broadcasting similar events. Still, the majority of the time ESPN comes out on top.

I don't see how anyone can view what's happening there as anything more than a dumpster fire. We may find some entertaining stories, to read, when their struggles are being covered.

Details emerge of allegations that led to Jamie Horowitz's dismissal at Fox

Welllllll....i have been thru the long haul...from when there were 3 channels...1 game a weekend...sometimes 2....listened to Bama football...more then watched...
We all did that have been around....wasnt that bad.... but lived in different states and had to read the newspapers about LSU, MSU, Ole ms, UT, etc...never could find Bama stuff... except late on am that faded in and out..still listened...
Then cable....awesome...several games...still had some onppv....was ok...espn was a blessing....then competition....and how do get an audience....well...be controversial..
So espn hires these talking heads that spew garbage...and fox n cbs jumps in...and conference networks (talking sec here...Finebaum ..trying to be equal to all schools..)...
...and now the internet.....
for me...well i have seen every Bama game since msu in 02....love it...but never watch the other garbage...i dont have to be spoonfed...i like reading what i want...never watching with the "personality " added... ...
I admit...probably a dying breed.... and yes...Terry...its a dumpsters fire...bu i have an off n on button..mute..included...
The ones that really irratate me...the ones on TV that act like its radio... dont watch enough to even remember their names....lol
