Joe Paterno, to this day, holds the record for the most interceptions thrown by a QB at Brown.  He was a poor football player in his day.


And, as evidenced by his record, what he did in college has had a drastic effect on how well he's done as a college coach.


Amos Alonzo Staff was an end at a divinity school.  Another case where a less than spectacular collegiate career had a direct bearing on the impact of a coach.
