🏈 Florida's Will Greer to transfer?

Suspended for half the year anyways, so technically only missing six games. My guess is because Felipe Franks committed he felt his chances were limited due to Franks' size and ability. And since Treon wasn't much of a boost, the new guy has a chance to start Day 1.

Can the year he sits out take the place of the suspension, though? Does the NCAA allow that?
I can't tell you where I read this, but I'm 99% sure I recall reading where kids that get this type of suspension can serve their suspension while sitting out a year due to the transfer rule.

With ESPN covering NBA, CFB, and some NFL yesterday (this morning) I doubt they'll go into much detail. On the other hand, I'd think they would on SEC Now ... plan on watching it at the top of the hour.

This one is confusing. He is suspended by the NCAA until mid season 2016. Even if he drops down a division, he's still suspended. If he goes to another FBS school, he'll have to sit out the entire season (even though his NCAA suspension would end mid season). What is he gaining? When he becomes eligible again, he'll be a redshirt junior vs a redshirt sophomore if he stays at UF. Is Franks that good? Does Grier have no confidence in knowing the offense better or being a better leader than a true freshman?

I just think the freshman would have a half season to gain ground on him and would possibly have proven/gained the trust of his teammates. I agree that he should not be scared of competition, but look what happened at Ohio State due to an injury and not some suspension. Meyer royally screwed JT Barrett in my eyes, allowing an injury to cause his 2nd string title. Just not right in my eyes, but it happened. So I can see where Grier'S anxiety comes from.

I think this has almost everything to do with it. He'd have to come back and try to win the job midseason. Odds stacked against him, and if he doesn't do it during the season it gets even more difficult to oust the incumbent (especially a young talented one with more time left in the program and no doping history).

I'd expect a transfer to a school with an open QB competition 2017. He would have all next yr to learn the system and start building trust, then compete for the job the next yr

I read a statement from Grier basically saying he was leaving because he "felt like he wasn't part of the UF plan going into 2016". Personally I can see how he wouldn't be part of the plan for 2016 as I would think it would be very detrimental to your offense to try and plan for a QB who would be suspended for the first half of the season. you've got to get somebody ready and repped up for the first 6 games and really can't worry about what the suspended player will or won't do

Honestly, bullshit that schools can block players from transferring to other schools but coaches can go wherever they want.

The whole thing is backwards.
You are not required to sign an NLI to receive a scholarship... if a player doesn't sign it, the school cannot block them. They'd still have to sit a year by NCAA rule.

Technically, they could go to any school they want, but if the school doesn't release the NLI they signed out of highschool, then they'd lose a year to the NCAA and a year to the NLI agreement... so 2 years in total.

You may not agree with it, but the kids should be (and technically are) signing with the school and not the coaches... so if the coach leaves isn't really part of the equation... having said that, I don't think it's fair to kids that are recruited into a specific scheme and then a coaching change renders their need moot. I think they should have some sort of transfer rules for when a coach is Fired (not when he decides to leave on his own accord).
