Fishing in the Gulf

This is first time in years that I'm not going fishing while at the beach. Had fusion surgery on L5-S1 Thanksgiving and haven't regained enough strength to feel like fishing this year. About 10 years ago I caught a pair of 50 pounders and an 83 lb cobia in one day out of Destin. That was my once in a lifetime fish.

You need to come go with us sometime.

Wait until you have a BLUE MARLIN

on the other end of YOUR Rod and Reel.

You'll NEVER get over it.

I rank it second to sex.

With a NyphoManiac (of course).

Welp
SNAPPER Sason is in Full Bloom
(I'm talking about the FISH)

And thats about all we'll be doing
for the rest of this month.

Attached are a few pics of the
last few days.

The "people" pictures are of Roberts Island
a "newly" favorite spot. To go drinking
/boating/tanning. And hang out
with a Few Hundred- of your "closest" friends.

July 4th and Memorial Day Weekend
there are THOUSANDS
on 2 Islands- about the size of 3 city blocks.

Love that Fisharound in the first pic.

Still Snapper Fishing- until Thursday
and Its OVER.

However- did go to the Spur trolling last week
and went Deep Drop Fishing - in that same area
about 60 miles South East of the beach- saturday.

Deep Drop Fishing- is usually done in 700 to 1000 feet of water.(Electric Reels)
and you catch some REALLY Funky looking fish.
Such as Tile Fish- Yellow Edge Grouper- Dog Fish
and some stuff I have No Idea what it is.

Caught a Lime Green eel one time with Purple dots
I cut the line and sent him back home to Mama.

Anyway- I should have a few fish pics later in the week.

But I do have soeme cool shots of some STORMS we went thru.
Our trolling trip got rained out- and we could not get to where i wanted to troll
so we turned it into a Bottom trip.
(Its hard to say BOTTOM TRIP without smilling- BUTT I digress)

Pics of storms are 60 to 70 miles offshore.

THATS Pretty Cool There XXL

Good Fish !

Bottom Jerkin is Now over for a while

weather permitting- we start trolling soon.

That said- attached is a pic of a fish

that most people have never seen or heard of

This is a Golden Tile Fish. We caught this in 700 feet of water

right on the bottom. a buddy of mine only fishes for these in 1000 plus feet.

Even with an electric reel- and 5 pounds of weight on the rig.

i takes a while to get to the bottom and come back up again.

we use Glow sticks and Glow beads on these rigs.

The fish is one of the best eating fish you can find.

Thanks, that was actually last year. Was jigging for amberjack when she hit. 48.5 lbs back at the dock. I had to drink a silver soda after she went in the box.
Also, after fishing the gulf for damn near 45 years, I have decided to give back a little. We are about to start tagging sharks. After researching a little, we are going to participate in the NOAA Apex Predator Program. I was hoping South Alabama had a Co-Op program, but they are still working on there's.

I'm heading out into the gulf tomorrow. Been so busy haven't had the opportunity since early June when I caught a 28# red snapper. I'm REALLY looking forward to unwinding and getting worn out by some fish, whatever jumps on my line.
We caught a 7 1/2 foot shark late last year, no tag, but released of course.

Hope you got a chance to bust 'em up! Bill. We brought my 9 y/o son and U,is little buddy down. It takes a whole new set of organizational skills when you are used to only one child. Fishing was slim, but I did wade and sight cast on these guys.
