I just think Golesh is not a bad alternative and is definitely a solid coach. I was hoping auburn would auburn the coaching hires and go after Mullen.
Golesh as good as they were going to get after Sumrall walked, I have little doubt about that. I know some may think Dillingham might have been better, but he was who I was hoping theyād hire. The SEC would eat him alive. Golesh is a solid coach and he wonāt fail for the same reasons Freeze and Harsin did. He may (and probably will) fail for different reasons, but heās going to work his ass off.
On auburn being auburn, they were 1 more misfire away from going with Durkin, which would have been hilarious. There were several (really stupid) reasons that Cohen wanted to promote him. Some last minute pushback sent him back to Golesh who wanted that job more than the Arkansas one (and Ole Miss wasnāt going to offer with their situation). But was really close to being another disaster hire.
