šŸˆ šŸ”„ Hot Seat 2025 / Coaching Carousel:

I just think Golesh is not a bad alternative and is definitely a solid coach. I was hoping auburn would auburn the coaching hires and go after Mullen.

Golesh as good as they were going to get after Sumrall walked, I have little doubt about that. I know some may think Dillingham might have been better, but he was who I was hoping they’d hire. The SEC would eat him alive. Golesh is a solid coach and he won’t fail for the same reasons Freeze and Harsin did. He may (and probably will) fail for different reasons, but he’s going to work his ass off.

On auburn being auburn, they were 1 more misfire away from going with Durkin, which would have been hilarious. There were several (really stupid) reasons that Cohen wanted to promote him. Some last minute pushback sent him back to Golesh who wanted that job more than the Arkansas one (and Ole Miss wasn’t going to offer with their situation). But was really close to being another disaster hire.

I went back a few pages and didn’t see this posted, so anyway. Not surprised CNS spoke highly of the LSU job, maybe Lane should have reached out for some advice on how to handle his leaving. Maybe, ā€˜I guess I have to say it, I’m not going to be the LSU coach’?

He probably doesn’t care, but I just wish Saban wasn’t as big of a Lane fan as he seems to be.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock into anything Kiffin says about Saban and taking the LSU job. Or really anything else that comes out of his mouth for that matter.

I don't want to put words in Saban's mouth, so let's look at the facts.

LSU is a better job - in the context of championships.
It's critical to take your core assistants, or hire better ones, at your next stop. In the same vein as asking, "do you want Kiffin in the ear of the players for another month, getting them to transfer?", you could ask, "why would Kiffin leave his key assistants at Ole Miss for a month and let Golding and the administration pitch them to stay?"

Could Saban have said, "get the assistants out with you or they will be enticed with promotions and extra money for a month"? Sure.
