šŸˆ šŸ”„ Hot Seat 2025 / Coaching Carousel: Golesh to AU, Kiffin to LSU.

First impression on Golesh to auburn... he's better than promoting Durkin, and he'll keep Durkin, so there's that. And maybe he turns out to be their Heupel, but this will be a massive step up for him... and now the Heupel structured offense is in two places in the league (twice on UA's schedule each year). Teams will continue to adjust, Bama and UGA included. On a side note, it isn't an attractive system for the NFL... the chance for big stats and the money will lure good players, but he will run into some recruiting issues in the SEC that he'll have to overcome. Bottom line, they screwed up on Sumrall... a guy that IMO is a much better coach and "program leader". I like Golesh as a person and he's good at what he does, but he's going to have a difficult job in auburn, IMO. I will give them a B- on the hire though.
Unless he just decides to not follow him, he'll probably bring in Todd Orlando as well. That's who id assume would be the actual Defensive coordinator calling plays if he went with Golesh. Slap the "Co" tag on Durkin and let him help out with whatever position group and help with installing for that week. We'll see, but coaches typically bring in coordinators they're familiar with.

But, we are talking about the Barn! They are notorious for putting stipulations on new HCs to keep hold overs.

Because he gave Alabama trouble 2 years.
***isn’t this why they hired Freeze??

*As long as yeller feller & the like insist on keeping their hands in it, any barn success will be temporary.

Agree on Kelly. If he wants to coach again, and he supposedly does, he will get a decent job... just might have to wait and pick what he likes. Nothing wrong with sitting out a year.

In a perfect world, the contracts would be much more incentive based... but unless/until the schools get the leverage to do such (which is never), the market will just have to sort it all out. But with schools on the hook for revenue sharing and such now... boosters having to fork over more and more to build and keep rosters... it just seems at some point, a line is going to get crossed financially. The coaches and players have (most) all the protection (as long as they stay between the lines). Meanwhile, the schools get bent over by the agents, backed into a corner, and give up the bank in fear of losing "their guy".

Sounds like these contracts with Sumrall and Golesh are going to be heavily with incentive based... the way it should be. Maybe the contract pendulum is swinging back in favor of the schools to some degree after all...

I'd feel a little bad for Ole Miss if I had a heart. But, they navigated this whole ordeal poorly... and now they sit there with most of their potential candidates being named HC elsewhere. I hope they have a plan... something beyond making Golding the permanent head coach.

The Ole Miss news dump on the Kiffin Years should be fun to follow though as it trickles out over the next few days and weeks...

You think the committee would date to leave Ole Miss out of the playoffs now?

Not in this case, but, their own protocols read...

PRINCIPLES

The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head-to-head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
